Just a friendly piece of advice, if it's not raining, and it's breezy when you go to bed, remove your rainfly altogether, and ratchet strap the overhanging side of your RTT down to the tire or bumper/sliders.

It was breezy when I went to bed on a trip out to JTNP, but woke up around 11p with 60mph gusts and sustained 30mph winds. It bent 4 of my tension rods, and was picking up the overhang, and slamming it down. If I had not been sleeping with my head towards the ladder, it would have folded up on me.

Do you mean the zipper on the cover? Mine was struggling until I waxed it. Made a world of difference.

I just picture in the cartoons where they jump one of those murphy beds and it folds up on them.

I've seen a lot of talk about security lately. My question; where are you all leaving your truck unattended (with RTT mounted) so long that someone would have the time to unbolt and steal your tent? Any time my tent is mounted on my truck I am with my truck. The longest it is unattended is a restaurant.

(Not stirring the proverbial pot, curious of different adventures with RTT mounted)

Mine is ALWAYS on my truck, I've parked it on the street for years without issue. I just don't think enough people around me know what it is. Those that do can afford their own.

That being said, it now lives in the warehouse at work when i'm not driving it, and I do rest a little easier. Mostly because my '00 has absolutely no electronics or any kind of theft deterrent capability except the 5 speed.

Mine is full time installed. I don't really worry about it, but I've seen crazier stuff happen.

I'm usually more worried about my bike in the bed.

Mine is always on my truck, as it is with most if I were to guess...if I had an easy way to take it on/off and room to store it, I would consider doing so but otherwise it's a giant pain in the ass to do for me. A thick steel cable wrapped around the tent and through the bed rack makes for an easy security solution in my book, and doubles as a way to secure other things in the bed as well.

Same. I'm worried as hell any time I have to walk in anywhere and my bikes are in the bed.

Mounted full time? How often are you camping?

I try to camp at least once a month, more during 'wheeling season' (out here that's Fall/Winter for me, I prefer the cooler weather).

It's more an issue of how big of a pain it is to take it off and put it on, we have a small house but no garage and our storage room is small and full of other things. Only option would be to store it outside, which I don't really want to do. Or buy/build another storage solution.

I just got the RTT last month so we'll see how it goes, if I end up feeling like it would make more sense to just take it off and only use it for certain trips then I'll consider it. But for now, it stays on.

I've gotten really good at finding spots next to a big ass cement wall to make it all but impossible to swipe my bike...or at least without taking 10 minutes.

If it's anything like me, just frequently enough that every time I consider taking it off, I'd have to put it on again.

Just like they said I have my tent on always and having a low profile bed rack it can be taken off in a few minutes if that, also with going to Downtown Denver for hockey and baseball games the parking garages don't always have the best security.

yeah my low profile bed rack is the only reason I was able to mount my RTT by myself, lol. But it was still not something I'd want to do on even a semi-regular basis.

I think @Bergster36 was telling me that his tent folded up from the wind once out in JT or Mojave so he straps the folded part down to his truck as well.

ratchet strap to the slider is so easy and convenient. Held up great in the wind as well. Also no unwanted popping when you sit on the seam.

I've only been able to camp four times so far this year but I don't mind loading it up. I like the ritual of getting the truck ready
