How to lock this ammo box?

it looks like some sort of pin goes into the latch but I don’t know more than that. Looks like the pin should be approx 1/8” diameter. See the nickel on the lid for size.

I use the box for recovery gear FYI.

Any ideas?

 

Yeah I thought about that too. I’ll have to take a closer look to see what that would involve. Was just wondering if there was something off the shelf...

 

Mind you the pin diameter would limit the hole and lock clasp to something not very secure.

Would one of those .50 cal ammo can lock kits work? Only a few bucks on cheaperthandirt.com.

 

That makes sense. I’ll see if I can make something out of stainless cable and use a padlock.

From the photo it appears to have 4 clamps, one on each side, holding the lid on. If you intend to use those clamps to lock the lid, you will need to secure two opposite clamps. I think it may be simpler and far more secure to use a separate locking system.

I would suggest bolting two flat metal bars on opposite sides of the box so that the ends of those flat bars extend beyond the top of the box. Drill a hole in the top of each of those metal flats so that a round bar can be passed through them and span the top of the box. That round bar needs a "L" or a head on one end and a hole drilled through the opposite end so that it can be secured with a pad lock.
When the round bar is passed through both brackets and secured with a padlock, it will effectively trap the lid under it.
