at one point before the Pros were released it was between the Taco and a Golf R to keep my small car fun going. i was totally turned off by the extra light shift and steering feel in the Golf so turned away from it and considered a Focus RS... glad i didn't do that one!

My 1st brand new car was a 1988 Golf, price tag was $7990. That car was a beast, had it 11 years and 200k before I lost it in a hit and run accident, that thing went everywhere and anywhere.

mine was fun. i ran it hard daily and took care of it. mission was 250k. totalled at 136k. really happy i never ever said I'm not driving my R32 to preserve it... that car was built to run and never missed a chance. did not have that kind of confidence in the new models, not even at all.

Very cool! I had an '84 H.O. Z28 in the same color as yours that I ordered with every performance option that Chevy offered. With only 190-200 h.p., it was a turd over 70 mph., but, hoo-boy it was slot car fun shifting the close ratio 5 speed from 0-60!

if soon happens i would love to know about it. but i know how this works and I'm not pushing for freebies as it were. but hey, my STMaxx tires are end of life coming Aug or Sept and that's a perfect time to thrash then to the grave, no?

Yes. You guys nailed it. Someone was asking me how the heck a truck could be fun to drive compared with a sports car. I didn't have a great answer. I just grinned and said, "I don't know, dude, it just is"

You guys fleshed it out and stated it better.

The best part, to me, is that (unlike a sports car) you can drive it like this anywhere you want-on or off road. (I suppose rally cars having some crossover).

    Hi all,

I've been a manual fan for a long time. :)

I just got this new to me 2016 SR 4x4 2.7L 5-speed a few weeks ago... well might as well be new as it only had 2201 miles on it. :p
    [IMG]

It was like pulling hens teeth to find a manual with a 4 banger.... I was going to run my 2000 for a few more years, but being paranoid that manuals might go away in the near future, I had to grab this when it came along... excuse the dirty floor mats.

So was 2016 the last of the 5 speed Tacomas?... or where there some in 2017 before they went to 6-speed?

Good find! 2017 was the last year of 5spd manual Tacoma's. You can still get a 6spd manual on v6 TRD models, for now at least.

nice! and so I'm guessing you now see why i wrap those in leather or at least something. for you up in the Great White North those knobs are painful in the cold season. and you can't always drive with gloves, right?

Having had manual Tacomas in the past, I’m loving my 2018 6spd manual. Having had a 2015,5spd, I love how the new 6spd shifts. I like the gearing, more options. My Sport has the anti-roll back feature, don’t really need it but it will come in handy I guess. Almost went with an automatic as the manuals are very hard to find in an access cab, the sport being the only option. I had upgraded my past shift knob to an AJT Design knob, very nice. Not to fond of the OEM knob on the 3rd Gen, and will probably upgrade. I have heard that the removal process is slightly different, anybody have any experience with a swap out. I like the TRD one,any pics out there?

    Woohoo! I like it.
    It looks really unique.

Wait, it kind of looks like Line-X...

    Two questions:

    1. Is it rubbery/soft?
    2. Does it squeek when ya squeeze it?
