picking back up from the old post: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-3rd-gen-today.399305/page-4345#post-17721360

It was time for some more late night ops:

    IMG_20180504_213451463.jpg

wrenching in the dark sucks when you cannot see anything; even worst when your garage is the size of a dog cage:

    IMG_20180504_213536106.jpg
And then we have this *hole device:
    IMG_20180504_220249492_LL.jpg
Looks like a little snug fit for the cap but it works. Was debating on 3d scanning it into AutoCad and then publishing the files so people can print it at their local 3d shop. Price is little stiff for 22$ but the inventor needs to get paid as well. However its a 1,30$ piece of 3d printed material.

oh well.. to keep going some LED low beams got added:
    IMG_20180505_072822958_HDR.jpg

    then some high beams:
    IMG_20180505_072842336_HDR.jpg
    looks good in the daytime:

a sneak peak of the next thing to come:

    as always: once time allows!

What is the best method to clean the lenses on the dash,IE, gage cluster, head unit. I know they scratch way to easy, trying to avoid this. Thanks.

I'm curious as well. I haven't touched mine with anything yet. I've heard a sunglasses bag, but haven't tested it out.

Been wanting to install a roof rack but the price for an OEM rack has been holding me back. Is your rack OEM Toyota or aftermarket?
I have reservations about much of the aftermarket stuff that's out there that's made in China. I realize that some of the OEM parts may actually be made in China but doubt about if the rack is or isn't keeps me from pulling the trigger on one.
The one thing that I am sure of is that the OEM price tag is nuts!
Wondering if anyone has made a direct side X side comparison of the two?

I just got my 3RD Gen and don’t want to scratch it like I did on my 2ND Gen. I where glasses and used my lense cleaning kit, just wondering if there is a better method. These things scratch way to easy!

I lightly use a soft bristled nylon house/trim paint brush made for latex stain followed by a blast of canned air, or compressor if you have one. Every few weeks keeps it clean and free of swirls as opposed to using a microfiber or other type of cloth.
Think of anything on there as an abrasive and tread lightly.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but you can get an OEM rack for $261 online from this dealership.

Well.....the inventor, @mesojdm has some costly gear to pay for......and an innovative idea that most of us have found very useful. Sure....the plastic material itself probably doesn't account for much of the overall cost.....that much was evident to each of us that bought one....PRIOR to buying one. Same could be said of many other products we all use and enjoy in everyday living.

Copying dimensions and publishing them would have been a total dick move. Glad you didn't go in that direction. Stealing someone else's work and throwing it out there.....yup, bigtime dick move. Maybe you'll come up with some other Tacoma-specific gadgets of your own and have your hand at the Auto-Cad/3D printer fabrication.

You have any plans to use that roof rack & bull bar on your truck ? Or are they installed to somehow enhance the looks ?

That is correct. Luckily they are one of my many local dealers, but also happen to be the one with the lowest mark-up.

Farewell entune, hello kenwo... soab! Wrong dash kit, lol!

Actually, this wasn't even the worst blunder from the install - I was also replacing my amp for a Hertz HCP4D for a little more power, on first power up, it crackled and went up in smoke. I triple checked all connections, everything was right, even broke out the multi-meter, couldn't find any problems with my connections, put my old amp back in, it worked fine with no problems... so I guess I just got a lemon (didn't expect that from Hertz, but that amp is from their low end line). It did also smell a little funny when unboxing it, but just figured it was from manufacturing process (I figured wrong).

Otherwise, the install was simple; hardest part was figuring out how to stuff all the wires behind the radio without creating a total birds nest. Still need to play with the options and features this morning (it was late by the time I got done messing with the amps). Just kind of sucked when I was all done, everything tested good and was working, and my last step before calling it a night was to just put the trim bezel back on... just to realize I had the wrong dash kit.

What happened with the dash kit... well, my theory is that a long time ago I must have been shopping on crutchfield for speakers, got annoyed by the "tell us what vehicle you have" popup thing, and just put in whatever to get rid of it and continue. Well, it would seem that back at that time I picked the 6" screen... when I was ordering all of this stuff, and it picks out everything you need to go with it, all I saw was "2016 Tacoma", so the thought never even crossed my mind. I of course needed the 7" screen version.

For reference, went with the Kenwood DNX574S, with the Maestro I-datalink to retain OEM features.

Might be worth a try and if they matched the price I'd save on S&H.
Hadn't thought about that, great suggestion.

I bought this for cleaning the driveway. Plenty of pressure, 2000 psi.
I have had it 2 years, no issues. I use it only for cleaning house stuff, concrete, brick, fence. I only hand wash Taco.

Looking good! What’s features did you get on your topper and how much did it run you? I’m looking to get the same topper.
