5100's in the rear, stock leaf springs
The 5100s in the rear are the same stock length so it wont raise it any. I just wanted to do run the same all around.

    As you quote from Headstrong:

I've traded emails with Headstrong and for my application due the a topper and additional weight in truck, its seems a full leaf pack is better then putting a bandaid on the stock set(?) I was going to go with an OME kit, but having seen a few examples of the struts coating rusting out, I'm now thinking Bilsteins are the ticket.

    Somewhere in the Mojave Desert...
    Vehicle:
    2017 Tacoma OR 4x4 (formerly 2002 OR 4x4, 1995 4x4 4Runner, 1985 4x4 Toy PU) ... and RIP’s (rust in pieces) to a Bronco II 4x4 & S10 Blazer 4x4
My take on it was since the 2017 is already rated to tow up to 3 tons, they had to take into account extra toungue weight in addition to a load in back, and they were right- camper towing with my single AAL and loading up with an extra 15 gals of fuel, in addition to 10 gals of water and additional gear and rocks we like to collect in the desert didn’t touch the bump stops at all, and when we unloaded it all at camp, the ride off road, as well as on road, was much better than anything I experienced with my 1st Gen.

As someone who has driven 4 generations of Toyota trucks off-road as part of my living, I think the single AAL rides great both on and off road, and that they are a really good option for the money. I think you are right, Bilsteins are a good choice, too. It would be interesting to get your take on the 3-leaf here, please add to the conversation when you’ve had a chance to really try them out, it would make for a good comparison.

Just got Pelfreybilt Aluminum Front Bumper and Warn winch. I also got (4x) 5100's and 885 coils up front. I have not installed yet. i'm not really looking for much lift , 1" max, so plan to set at the fronts at 0. With the 885 coils and the additional weight up front should that come out level or should i have gotten a different coil?

Did you need a diff drop or carrier bearing drop kit with this setup? Extended brake lines? Currently looking at this same setup and trying to decide between the aal and Dakar. I see the Dakar kit comes with the drop kits and brake lines while providing roughly the same amount of lift.

I am very glad I chose the Dakars vs AAL. The ride is even better in the rear and they allow for more droop.

I did not do a diff drop but did do a carrier bearing drop. Since I still have some driveline vibration, I'm adding 2.5* shims. Brake lines, yes. You could probably get away without them but why skimp $100?

So you went with the Dakar medium duty and 887 coils up front? Sits level or still have some rake?

I did 888's since I read they have a little less settling. In the rear I did medium duty Dakars and extended length 5100's. I'm very happy with it. I wouldn't change a thing.

I do still have some rake and I'm fine with it.

I want to still have some rake at the end. That’s why I was thinking the 887. Thought I might have to add a small lift block with the 888. Stock uca’s worked fine?

You'll still have plenty of rake with 888's. I can't answer the UCA question, I opted to spend a little extra and do it right th first time. I did JBA UCA's which allow for more droop also.

Did you end up needing the carrier bearing and diff drop kits? I know the package from headstrong comes with the carrier bearing kit but doesn’t look like it includes diff drop kit.

    And awesome setup btw.

Not looking like 285’s would fit on this setup?

Quick question - are you guys that are running Dakar’s/AAL’s using extended brake lines in the rear?
