Live in North Georgia mountains. We left Friday 4/27 to go to Louisville KY. to visit our daughter. We went out to dinner last night, drove home and about 9:00 PM all hell broke loose out in the driveway.Went outside and the Tacoma lights were flashing and the horn was going nuts.First thought was someone tried to break in.I pulled the drivers door handle, which was locked and everything stopped.I then realized I didn't have my keys.We tore the place apart and no keys.I called Cherokee Toyota in Canton ,Ga.where I bought the truck in Dec and got the vin & key fob number .Drove to Oxmoor Toyota in Louisville to get a new smart fob made.Forget about it!Parts guy says we don't have a laser cutter and neither does the other dealer in town.We will have to tow your truck in here and then send out to have someone laser cut the key.Your pry looking at about $600 to $800.
Since DA me didn't bring the second smart key fob,I called my neighbor and it will be here Mon.at 10:30 AM.Whew!! Never leave the second fob and home again.
I did learn that I could not have dropped the key fob at the restaurant, vehicle won't start with fob out side of the vehicle. So its either in the truck or in my daughters house somewhere.Looked in window of the truck and didn't see it and can't find it in the house? How did the truck get locked? What triggered the alarm? Very safe neighbor hood.
I'm writing this to let other drivers know about the costly consequences of doing what I did. These laser cut keys are fairly new and the equipment to cut the key is evidently very expensive.Wish I had known.

It is possible that someone found the FOB and was trying to figure out which vehicle it belonged to by pressing the panic button.

We were home when the alarm sounded.Remember we drove home from the restaurant, about 20 miles which means the keys had to be in the truck .Should find out tomorrow when we get the 2nd key whether the 1st set is in the truck or lost in my daughters house. In any case we will be able to drive the truck back to home in Big Canoe,Ga.

Thank you very much, think we are going to love this forum.I traded in a 2009 Tacoma for the 18.Love the added horses,XM radio, and the outstanding back up camera which is now in the navi screen. The camera in the 09 was in the rear view mirror .

No! It has to be in my daughters house.Still can't figure out what caused the alarm to go off. This is a long shot, but I'm thinking either the dog or the cat grabbed the key fob in her mouth and bit down on the panic button. We still can't find the keys.Hope they didn't wind up in the trash.

Or could have been wedged into a sofa cushion and the button was briefly activated by someone sitting down.
