I am planning to put Toytec boss 3 inch full lift kit on my truck.(500lb silver, front diff drop, and SPC light racing adjustable upper controll arms). My truck is a 2004 ext cab 4x4 4cylinder 2.7 engine. It is it a good idea? How and would it affect on road driving performance ? Will my engine be able to handle this modification? Recommendations?

You will get more than 3" because you have a 4 cyl. I would think it would ride as stiff as a board and a diff drop may not be enough to correct your CV angles. When I first put my lift on, I had my 5100 struts set too high and got like 3.75". Here's a pic of my CV angles. 0324181507.jpgYou may have better luck with an OME 881 coil, I plan on installing 880's in the near future and those should give me 1.75-2" on a 4 cyl. I would think an 881 would net close to 2.5-3" on a 4 cyl.
Edit: Call Marie at Headstrong Offroad. She will set you up right. Best prices hands down and the best customer service.

If the old 22R or 22RE 115 hp can handle all of that, I am sure the 2.7 150 HP can handle it no problem. You will be fine!

A lift kit (or various suspension pieces) by itself doesn't change the weight or rolling resistance of the truck, so your engine won't even notice those things. You *might* get a little more air resistance with the truck being higher, but I can't imagine that being a measurable factor.

The bigger tires (heavier, but also more rolling resistance), heavy body armor/bumpers, etc... that typically come with a lift kit are the things that your engine will notice.

The 4cyls will tend to "notice" bigger tires more so than the V6's, so it's more important to re-gear your differentials when getting bigger tires.

Just roll with it. It will be an all around better ride than it is currently, I assure you. My truck with 205k and 265-75-16 still gets in the 17-18 MPG range.

Watch your CV boots if you go for the full lift potential, but you can always do the boot slide mod.

What coils are you using? spring weight? You tried putting it at the lowest clip setting?

Surprisingly those were Moog 81102 coils at the 1.33" setting. I imagine they wouldve settled to around 2.5" at that setting. I put them at the lowest setting and got 1" of lift. I'm not overly impressed with their ride quality so I'm gonna replace them with OME 880 which should net around 1.75-2" on the lowest setting.

880s for a 2inch lift? Even on a 4 cylinder I don’t think you’d get that much would you. It’s my understanding the 884s will give me about 2-2.5 and the 885’s will do 2.5-3 on my 4 cylinder access cab. Did you ever throw these on and find the measurements?

880 gave me 1.75" on the dot with my access cab. I wouldnt even want to think about 885's on my truck.

Edit: If you have a 2nd gen, those numbers sound more accurate, as 885 is the 2" lift coil for the V6's on those.

Interesting I’ve got a third gen access cab 2.7L and was set on the 884s to give me about 2.5 but after more research and talking with some others the 885s might still be alright without going over 3

Yeah the 1st gens are much lighter trucks than your 3rd gen, so we dont venture past 883's much even on the double cab V6's. You may get a better answer if you post up a thread in the 3rd gen section.

I’m thinking about doing the same thing except with a leveling lift kit with my 2012 4 cylinder sr5 Tacoma. Would y’all recommend putting on bigger tires than the 245/75/r16 tires they came with?

    4 run, 2 don't
You'll have better results doing a search in the 2nd gen section.

If you don't know how to search, or refuse to, just create a thread in the 2nd gen section.

With that being said, tires are a personal choice and it's up to you to decide what you want to achieve, what your uses are, as well as budget.
