I've been cruising the obvious, Newegg, BestBuy, Costco, Amazon, Dell, Lenovo, etc.

Everything that hits the specs I'm interested in are in the $900 - $1k range. Which is not a show stopper. But like anyone, I'd either like a lower price for my specs or more for my $.

It may not be possible, but..............

Any tricks or tips for where or how to shop?

2 yrs ago I purchased an Asus gaming laptop off Amazon for $999. Still works well and plays all modern games and does everything else well.

We usually have good deals on laptops. Go with an open box unit. Still has manufacturers warranty and we will cover for a year regardless.

We have great customer service and won best computer repair locally 3 years in a row.

    I like Origin https://www.originpc.com

Nice solid systems with no bloatware and no forced paid /subscription software.

I have started to keep my tech longer and longer, it was more of a young man's game for me to fuck around with buying the latest and greatest back in the day. Now I buy high end specs with a greater focus on chassis build quality and comfort. I really like my current MSI GS63 Stealth, I don't game much but I edit photos and videos so I wanted a nice GFX card and at least a FHD monitor. Battery is right around 5 hours and the laptop is pretty damn thin for packing a 256gb SSD, 1tb HDD, GTX1060 6gb GFX card, i7-67xx processor, plus a keyboard that has a nice feel for typing. $1200 and I feel I can keep it for 3-4 years without wanting more

Do you like the hybrid drive system? Seems like it would be another level of complexity, but maybe not.............

It's actually really nice, I can put programs I use frequently on it so they open fast, or intensive ones like Adobe Suite. And I can store my data on the hard drive without cluttering my OS. It's not complicated and it let's you keep your system from getting bogged down to quickly.

Very cool! But a bit over my budget. I'm bookmarking the site though. Never know when something might change.
