I have MBRP. Sounds great. I don't notice any drone, probably because I'm a man. Or because my other truck has a 406 SBC in it and I'm already deaf. I dunno.

I couldn't get the link to do anything. Sorry.

Here is mine this afternoon.....just before I fired up the grills.

Apologies for when I had to step into the backseat area and grab a can of suds from the backseat Yeti. Slamming the lid made my iPhone fart on the video.

    I freaking love my Flowmaster Super44 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    This and that...
Also, I believe my gas milage may have improved a little too... All do to hearing the engine and all that gas I'm burning with a heavy foot. ;) Tend to drive with a lighter foot now, sometimes...

I don't have any experience with Flowmaster but the Magnaflow muffler I got was like $80-$90 and the Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator was about $80. I used the MBRP pipe I had on the truck. Which on a side note, I can't understand why this kit comes with 3 inch pipe. Anyway, from what I have read the difference between a resonator and a muffler is that a muffler is designed to reduce engine noise over a wide spectrum of harmonic frequencies whereas a resonator is designed to reduce a very specific set of frequencies. Usually drone. If your exhaust sounds like butter but you would like a little less cabin noise, do some homework on resonators. I really like the vibrant products and so do lots of other folks on here.

Lot's of opinions on such things around here. Truth is some guys piss and moan over any 3rd Gen modification......some can't wait to wrench on their Tacoma Transformers.......and some just bitch about their 3rd Gens to the point that I wonder if they even test drove them before buying them. Wide range of opinions.....and not always expressed well.

All I can say is that I have thoroughly enjoyed my Tacoma and don't regret any of the minor "mods" I've done to it. I hope that's always the case.

I was looking at all the bolt-on kits available and leaning strongly in that direction. I wasn't doing so for some perceived performance output benefit....simply doing it for the sound. That's it. Only reason. Now....if I am able to actually improve the performance in some way by doing so....then cool, but it wasn't my driving reason.

A buddy suggested that I skip past the bolt on kits and recommend I go see the owner of a local shop who would remove the factory muffler and weld another of my choosing on there. He also gave me a couple suggestions. I went to the shop and really liked what I heard from the owner. Super guy, sweet wife works there....great staff in a family owned business that's been here for a long time. They do good work and have a great reputation. His shop is on some prime real estate and I was expecting high cost. That was not the case, at all.

He suggest the Flowmaster Super44 and he also said there was a Magnaflow model that he'd used on 3rd Gens that folks seemed to like. He said the FM would be more pronounced which is what I went with. He helped me select the tip I went with and said it would help with the sound in a small degree, too.

I made the appointment for later in the week....early morning....hoping to be first in the bay. I was.

He took my truck around and said he'd have me finished up in an hour or so. He was doing the work personally.

I hung out in their lobby....crazy comfortable seat that I fell asleep in. Gone. Out. Snoozing.

Was woken up to a sweet sound......Someone had opened the front door after he backed up into a parking space right by the door and he hit a couple revs in my truck. SWEET. Very cool experience. $255, I believe is what it cost.

He made some lift & leveling suggestions that I very well may followup with...he'll be the one doing them if and when it gets to that point.

    You have lots of options.

My best recommendation is to find a local shop that you can trust....get their opinions.....and try to find someone with a 3rd Gen who's made such mods and listen in person. It's hard to capture the sound on video....at least it is for my on my iPhone. My videos don't really capture it that well. Sounds better in person.

    It truly has helped me.

Prior to making changes I'd seldom hear engine sound and would only gauge by tach and speedo.

Afterwards, I'm much more aware of small details. For example I can distinguish the times I'm moving along with traffic and mildly hitting the gas vs letting it "coast". Very subtle differences such as this are more evident now. All the wasted acceleration I'd do...just to get close to moving traffic only to have to brake and slough off speed.....over and over during a trip really adds up.

Just being more aware has made me a more efficient driver.

Did you try the borla at all? I'm in the market for an exhaust and think it's narrowed down to those two. Tough to use a video to make a decision. Any drone noticed at 75?

Won’t you fail smog emissions though, I think in Cali you can’t pass smog unless you have cats installed.

I haven't had a chance to use a Borla exhaust on a Tacoma. I did have a Borla cat-back kit on a 2015 Tundra that I had with the 5.7 engine and it sounded amazing.

I'm incredibly comfortable with the interior sound in my Tacoma while driving at highway speeds (which normally tops out for me personally at 70). Again, from the kits I have installed, the @Flowmaster Exhaust cat-back system seems to have gotten the interior sound correct compared to others.

I've like going the custom route. Below was my Nismo Frontier exhaust that had done. Ran an Actual X Pipe, Magnaflow Muffler and an Vibrant Resonator with a turn down before axle. Setup was great and was less than buying one aftermarket.

JBA Headers cat back is worth a look too. I've had mine on for almost two weeks now and I love it. Nice deep tone at start up, not too loud but definitely more noticeable than stock. Minimal drone in the cab. Easy bolt on installation.

Did you go with the car back system or just have a muffler cut in using stock pipe?

Is that the borla cat back or just a muffler welder in?
