lost track of this thread, but happy to report I'm alive and well :D

my last post was in January of 16, in 2016 I did my second Bob Marshall Open, several 20-50k mountain races and a ton of just for fun adventure runs- totaling just shy of 2000 miles.

2017- completed my third Bob Marshall Open, ran several 20-40k mountain races (no 50k's this year), numerous fun mountain runs and am on track for another 2000 mile year.

A few pics from a couple of weekends ago trip to Glacier- a really nice 25-ish mile loop (replete with close encounter with a sow grizzly an two cubs!).

Redemption! Just completed my third Broad Street Run. No cramps today. I think I may have held back a little because of last years debacle. I will turn 48 this summer and I only started training for this the first week of March, and I’m fat. So all things considered, this was a good result for me.

it’s been several months since my last check in, finished 2017 with 1900 miles, my highest

we’ve had a long winter here, but still was keeping my mileage in the 30-ish per week, a fair amount of it on snowshoes

gearing up for my fourth Bob Marshall Open in a couple of weeks, route this year is about 140 miles so a little longer than previous years

with record snowpack and record stream flows, it will also be the most challenging to date

did a little test run on Sunday, trying out a new pack- 20 miles with about 15 on snowshoes- I think my conditioning is on par with previous years- the conditions will be the make or break it factor

Ran a local 12k trail race the weekend before last; normally run their 30k, but too close to the Bob Open (this weekend). Finished in the top third (good for me) and 4 of 17 for my age group- pleased with that.

The real test is this weekend, 140-ish miles in what will certainly be the most challenging conditions to date, thanks to record snowpack.

Did a little 20 mile test run Sunday, most of it on snowshoes- shaping up to be a dandy :D

    ^ nice :)

I just got out of the Bob Marshall, toeing the line for the Bob Open for the fourth year. This year was sure to be troublesome with record snowpack and consequently record stream flows, the later being the most worrisome.

15 folks toed the line Saturday morning, only two would finish- I wouldn't be one of them. We made a good effort, but the stream crossings not only slowed us down, but were flat out dangerous. At roughly mile 80 on day three, we decided it would be safest to bail. Our bail options were very limited this far in, and settled for a sketchy 15 mile out to a trailhead.

    Next year :)

that should keep you busy! :)

I’ve done a few 50 mile days (actually 47 and 48), but have never done a 50 mile race; guy she probably do one and cross it off his list :D

Well I'm finally back to ultrarunner status :D- 12 hour race last night (8PM-8AM) I racked up 40 miles (three full loops and a bonus small loop)- I was literally walking dead in the morning!

A 12 mile figure 8 (the bigger loop is 8 miles, smaller 4) about 3000' of gain/loop- all technical single track trail, which combined with running w/ a headlamp and lack of sleep makes for interesting running to say the least.

I predict soreness for several days :D

Congrats! That elevation gain sounds brutal.

I’ve been getting in some solid long runs the last two weekends- 21 and 17 miles (today)- technical single track with some good gain. Will need it as I signed up for the Elkhorn 50k this morning.
