I need a rain fly for my hammock for this weekend. Going solo and don't want to bother with a tent. I'd like to stick with the ENO brand to match my hammock. Not sure of which one would be the best for all around use. Req is simple. Want to stay dry if it rains but don't want something that's an oven in the heat either. Any suggestions on choice of their different rain fly's?

Depends on the season but basically anything MSR makes is worth owning. I also love my GSI plastic French press with a nylon handle for easy storage and instead of spending huge bucks on a fancy cooler I always have my Coleman marine grade, works well for $50(on sale) Cold weather and I always pack my Patagonia ultralight down. I think my next investment will be into a dehydration kit and vacuum sealer for making meals ahead of time.

Would but I'm needing it for this next weekend. Between work and other scheduled things I don't have time to sew one up. Plan on making the one for the other hammock.

cb 2017 bedroom.jpg You can just use a plastic tarp until you find exactly want you want. The breathability in this case will have nothing to do with the fabric (all camping tarps are non-breathable) and everything to do with how you pitch it. Pitch a little wide for dry conditions and narrow it up for storms. Technique is your friend with hammocks and tarps

Stick with the basic profly. It’s what I’ve been using for years and love it either sleeping on the ground or in The hammock

Yeah, there's over 100 goats in that basin, up from 20 a few years ago. Sort of a problem in the Summer.

Just ordered one of these small waterproof tent tarps (4' 3" x 6' 11") to use as a quick and easy shelter straight off the back of my truck when I sleep back there. It'll attach to my back 54" (I cut them down) Yakima round bar using two of those short bungee/knob cord thingies. I already have two older LL Bean tarp poles to use on the other end. Be nice to have a dry place to exit the truck in the event it's raining. Should be a quick & easy set up.

Was craving the mountains last weekend but didn't have much time. Left work at 5, at my campsite by sunset, back to my truck by noon on Saturday, 5 miles in and 5 miles out. Able to breathe some fresh air and still fulfill prior obligations throughout the weekend.

Solved my rain fly issue. Just ordered a ENO One Link setup with a new hammock, pro fly XL, Atlas XL suspension system, Guardian bug net, stakes, bag, a backpack, sling bag and drip strips. :anonymous:

Now I'll have hammocks for everyone in the family.

Nice! I just picked up those ultra lightweight Eno straps.. haven’t tested them yet. I’m cautiously optimistic.. but I also weigh 250 so that will definitely put them to the test

I thought about going with those but I kinda thought if I'm going to do that I might as well buy a Sub6 hammock setup.

I also just realized I selected the wrong bug net in that kit I got. I wanted the bigger one because I'm going to get a gear hammock to go underneath mine to hold my stuff off the ground and that one is kinda tight for that. Oh well, I can change it over to my son's hammock and buy the bigger one for mine next time.

Anyone camped in the Taos Ski Valley area? I am camping/hiking with a bunch of friends and we will be doing Wheeler Peak on Friday. I know there are 3 small areas along NM-150, and the plan was to just see what availability is like as we go, but if anyone has any other suggestions my ears are open!

So... my work and recreational activities often find me bushwacking in tick country. I decided to try some Insect Shield apparel. The clothing is permeated with permethrin and the manufacturer claims it's effective through 70 washings. The first few times I used the clothes I was tick free; but I don't know if that was because there were no ticks in the area or the clothing was really effective. Last weekend I was bushwacking in northern New Jersey using the Insect Shield clothing which had only been washed 5 times. I came out of the bush and found 2 deer ticks crawling up my pants. They didn't seem a bit fazed and I watched them continue to crawl upward for about 7 minutes until they approached my belt line, when I flicked them off. The lesson- manufacturers may be grossly overexagerating their claims that their clothing repells ticks after 70 washings. Probably the most effective one can do is spray down ones clothing with permethrin spray immediately before hitting the bush.
    Happy Trails!
