I do not want to clutter the manufactures OP with this as it's not fair to his original thread. So I will create this separate thread. I ordered this aftermarket weighted knob and had it cerakoted to match the dark gray interior of my truck. Manufacture (member 7r41lbr34k3r)
was super about it and sent it direct to my applicator. Well in the midst of excitement no directions or installation instructions were ever sent or relayed to me and everything seized. In all, if you order a metal aftermarket shift knob, the risk of galling/seizing is real and the installation process should be provided by the manufacture. When none of that is provided until after they have been notified of a failure, their responsibility of that step was failed already.

In our initial conversation you can see that we did not have to mask the threads cause of the minimal build up. Oh and don't mind the youtube link of "Ashton Kutcher Movies" LOL (One of my college courses has an assignment based on a film he made with cultural differences). I'm posting the rest soon.

 

For the record. The item was shipped with anti-seize lube on the threads ... and his coater stripped, sandblasted and coated the threads with cerakote.

Instructions are mainly for plastic shims (to attain proper orientation) and lubrication is not required at the time of installation, but should re-applied for additional insurance.

I told OP that I was unfamiliar with his coating that he desired, and he told me to not worry and his guy was "second to none". I left it to him and his professional to choose the best course of action. I was very open about my lack of knowledge of his Cerakote process. I had concerns and suggestions, and OP told me to not worry ... that he had experience in doing this.

We have proof that two of the three threads were sandblasted, and coated, so it is not unreasonable to assume that he did the same for the threads that mount the shifter to the truck.

I offered him reimbursement if he provided picture of the interior threads of the aluminum core, to prove they were not sand blasted and/or coated. He will not provide me with a picture.

It is not unreasonable to assume that the 3rd thread got the same treatment. This coating is harder than the shifter, and the lubricated bare aluminum surface that I provided him would not have damaged his truck, because aluminum is softer than the induction hardened shifter. Cerakote is harder than the shifter, simple really.

Product failed, had to be cut off, out $ and manufacture does not want any part of it and denies any wrong doing. The messages and link I provided in my OP will show otherwise. I truly just want others to be aware of the risks in an aftermarket metal shift knob. Hence I’m not name calling or bashing, just posting up our conversation.
