    Thank you for posting this thread, ive been thinking about doing my own oil changes since my free ones are done. I thought I recall seeing on the invoices that an oil change would be about $90...does this seem about right? Mr. Tire states for the truck it is about $60 with internet coupon...wondering if doing it on your own is cheaper as well as looking to see what your dealerships are charging you...im sure there is a lot to consider, brand of filter, brand of oil, etc.

    Hopefully everyone reading this thread realizes one thing.... there are lots of oil choices out there and as long as you change it regularly (10K for normal people, 5K for paranoid people), use the right viscosity (0W-20) and use a quality filter, your truck will go a long long time.

    When was the last time anyone heard of a modern engine failing because of the oil brand?
    Anyone? Bueller?

    Supertech full Synthetic oil has worked good for my GF 4runner, i always use Valvoline in mine tho

    Where can you buy Amsoil ? I heard it's very expensive compared to the premium big name mass produced synthetic oils.

    you could probably Do-it- yourself for les than $20, full syn and OEM filter if you use the Rebates offered by the oil manufactorers

    Idemitsu 0W-20 is Toyota spec, as far as I can tell from research. Price is not bad on 5qt jugs.

    Changed @15K with Toyota filters. first 2 oil changes were freebies from the dealership. I plan to change every 5K, and stocked up with 5 pack of filters and 6x 5qts of oil, so I'm set for 5 changes.

    Air filters @10K (Ecogard is a good fit, but has a glued-on microfiber prefilter. F1 Auto is closer to Toyota stock spec).

    I'll change diff oil @20K. Not sure on the brand yet. Haven't thought about ATF or other fluids other than to check levels. I definitely plan to follow or beat the factory schedule on fluids.

    You have to put oil in these trucks.... ;) Right now whatever the dealer puts in there until Toyota Care Plus expires.

    Anyone have experience with full syn quaker state oils? I know that shell owns them and pennzoil. They both use to get bad rep for sludge and wax build up ect. How are they doing now when compaired to Valvoline and mobil one? Ive been very tempted to switch from Valvoline to quaker state for the savings i just cant find anything online about it other than how it sludged engines bad 30 years ago.
