Now that I did a reroute and have installed sliders and skids, the lowest part of my truck is now my differential and I am wondering if I should put a skid on it since I do off-road on rocky trails now and them and have scraped bottom a few times. Is it worth putting on a differential skid, and if you do not have one, I’m curious how many here have damaged their differentials?

Im considering DIY mod fab from an existing one, but open to suggestions... thanks!

I asked a very experienced offroader/welder about a rear diff skid, he said even on rock crawlers he sees very little damage. Moral of the story, save your cash for better things.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
Your not going to find a "Good cheap" bolt on diff skid. If you want to go the inexpensive route you will need to weld on a rear axle cover. Really that's the only part on the axle that needs to be protected as its thin sheet metal. The rest of the axle is pretty beef.

We have thought about doing a bolt on rear mounted diff skid that just protects the back of the axle. But I'm sure that would be too pricey.l if your looking at 20 dollar weld on units.

What part of the axle? The cross “tubes” themselves? Is that like the bar or truss one sees that is often bolted across them to strengthen them? Thanks for the reply.

The center section where the ring gear is. And a truss is welded on not bolted.
