I'm not much on the filter change. Most are talking about keeping the R's below 2k. How in the world is the stock filter not going to supply plenty of air for that small engine?
Usually the only way you're going to see any difference in the possible problem of getting enough air is at high RPM's. For putting around under 2k RPM's you have more filter than you will ever need.

Good thing I read this. I was thinking of going with the Kumhos. Tires not doing well on wet pavement is not good, especially in Florida.

I have Falken Rocky Mountain ATs on now. They are LT @ 265/75/16. They have served me well (60K+ miles), but are heavy. I no longer have heavy loads, and do not take it off-road much, mostly beach. So I need to go to a lighter tire.

Alright today has been the day...the new wheels and tires are on! and some of the "results" are in.

    issues first:
-slight wobble, vibration around 65mph (thinking thats a wheel thats not weighed perfectly)
-some minor rub when the wheel is cranked hard (mostly in reverse and nothing a heat gun or dremel won't fix)
-mpg? will update in a tank or two.....
-not an issue, but for anyone considering KMC enduros, the fit is pretty damn tight...I was sweating beads when my mechanic was cursing as he was putting em on...its hard to even get a fingernail between wheel and caliper but they fit! driven around for a bit now and there is nothing touching/no wear on the slightly rusty caliper... so YAY!

    the good.....

they look frigging awesome! managed to mount some rip off maxtrax as well as a new cb antenna and once its nice enough to throw the tent on the whole setup will be complete! really pumped!

    heres some pics:

    IMG_4321.jpg
not sure how that worm got there...

    IMG_4326.jpg

the tires are actually aired down to 20psi in this picture cause I was testing the viair 88p....i have them at 35 now and am unsure of what pressure to run..plan on doing a chalk test but would appreciate input from someone running these!

I am! 300blk bolt gun is the most recent addition...assuming you are too? The tires are actually quieter than the bfg rugged terrains I had on there before (245)... like I mentioned I have that slight shake at speed but I really think thats just an unbalanced tire...and Im going back to my mechanic this week.... my tires shipped to me within like 2 days...

Yep! I've got a few bolt guns, a bunch of rimfires, and a couple of .357 Magnum pump-action carbines. I am a plinker...the wife hunts deer, turkey, and waterfowl.
My tires are taking so long because it is a 3rd-party order. No-one local to me stocks Falken. My dealer ordered them from another dealer who brings them up from the U.S. (I am in Canada).
It's good to see the tires are quiet...I hope your balance issue turns out ok.

    nice! good woman right there!
that makes more sense with regard to the tires! you will have to update what your experiences with them are once you get em!

nice! like I mentioned I had that vibration while doing 60 and over...went to have an alignment done today and they checked the balance of the tires to find that they were not well balanced (the machine my local shop used was probably "slightly" outdated). So my local pep boys, (the only chain store that I can really speak highly of) re balanced all of the wheels. Truck now tracks true and there isn't the tiniest wiggle at highway speeds...really happy!

my spedo, which was off by about 5mph (reading high) with 245s is not almost dead on (mph or two off). the RPMs are down a bit making cruising at speed more comfortable!

lastly I have noticed that the falkens seem to briefly humm around 50-55mph...almost like thats the sweet "annoying" spot. 5mph below or above that region and I can't even hear them!

Just got in from a test drive...I have a bit of a shake at 60+ as well. I will swap the wheels front to rear, re-torque them, and drive it for a couple of days before I go back for another balance. It's good to hear yours is ok now.

My scale is only accurate to 1/2lb, but that sounds good enough for a truck wheel...The stock steel wheel with center cap and a 245/75/16 Bridgestone DMV2 Blizzak tire weighs 66lbs. The TRD "SEMA" 17X7 with a 235/75/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W comes in at 64lbs.

Falken claims 38lbs for this tire...I measured 40.5lbs.

nice! you might actually see an up in mpg...never know:) good luck with the shake, if its not major and really only happens at speed I would bet money its the wheel balancing.... the other thing I noticed with mine when my wheels were not balanced (this is gone now) was that when I turned the wheel I could sometimes feel like a bump or two in vibration...even at slower speeds.

you should post a picture! id like to see what how that wheel and tire package looks

Thanks. It has the Toyota replacement springs on the back, and looks really nose-heavy. I'm considering a pair of 5100s to level it out a bit.

just put a rtt on the back...thatll help :)

or (something I'm considering) you can replace the front and rear shocks with 3rd gen trd offroad shocks...to my knowledge plug and play and they should give about an inch of lift in the front (little less in the back) i imagine you could technically just do the front. benefits are that they are cheap, and you don't have to account for the taco lean... i saw a whole set, front rear, leafs, and upper control arms (not sure if those fit) for 300ish on CL near me... 5k miles on em...read some of the threads on it...a lot of guys say the ride is awesome

Got them re-balanced today...smooth as glass. I am pleasantly surprised how quiet these tires are. It is raining today, and they are also much better on wet pavement than the Toyo Open Country tires I had last year.

alright...Ive got an update...for those wondering....first tank exclusively on the new tires and wheels.

    old setup: 245s on steelies (21mpg 50/50 city&hwy)
new setup: 235s on KMC enduro alloy wheels (20.5mpg 50/50 city&hwy)

did all the math (not relying on any sort of a vehicle computer).

the next test will now be the mpg with the rtt (added today) I will update again if people are interested.

    IMG_4396.jpg

for those wondering the truck dropped 1/4 in in the back when i added the tent

If anyone is interested I have been running the truck with the skinny with the tent and some gear in it for the past few weeks...my average mpg seems to be going up. I had 20.5 on the first tank and just filled up yesterday at 21.5. 50/50 city highway with the tent and the gear...I drive conservatively and usually don't go faster than like 65 on the highway, finding that the truck likes that speed...

My mpg went up slightly after I added the Snugtop.

That and just driving it within reason will maximize my mpg.
