I am in for a kit when you decide to make it. Shit I already have all of your mods except those Ultra Blinkers that sold out in 6 minutes and I was 2 minutes late to it. I just did Tails as Turns mod yesterday but I would love to relocate turn down to reverse for sure!

Bro, you know that was rhetorical! I mean, they say good things come in threes! At least that's what the first post of this thread says!

You will need at least 9 ohm resistors. Many people ran into issues (including me after a few months) until they put in more resistance. Basically, it would blink once and then it wouldn't do anything.

With 9 or 10 ohms, no one has reported any issues. I am using a total of 11 ohms now (it's all I had on hand) and I have not had any issues since then.

I second this as well. I will sell you 8ohms as well as diode dynamic tails as turn. I bought 8 ohm abd 10 ohm and I just used 10 so 8 ohm is spare.

What resistor value did you end up using?

damn. i forget. lol. i know they were the morimoto ones. found em on a pontiac website i think. I'm really good at ordering parts and starting a roject and never completing it. I'm pretty proud of myself this time. parts only sat for 2 months.

Finally got around to doing the Vleds V6 Triton version of this modification today. Tried to take plenty of pictures to post up here as guidance. I also seem to go out of my way to explain how to use a multimeter to identify the wires. Sorry, I get carried away with details sometimes. I owe it all to @swordfish who provided the ‘how-to’ to make the process less intimidating.

I prefer this version of the modification as it provides an amber turn signal as opposed to the full red ‘C’ ‘tail-as-turn’ that most of these posts pertain to. These tritons are crazy bright too, so there’s no way your intention to turn will go unnoticed. I’ve had that concern many times while driving this truck with the stock light configuration. The turn signals and brake lights from the factory are absolute shite.

First, I bought the vleds V6 Triton switchbacks on sale because they are damn expensive. I added the recommended VLRpro6 resistors and wiring harness to make for easier install and avoid hyperflash.

UPDATE: While the wiring harness was handy, the VLRpro6 hyperflash fix WAS NOT required in the end. The lights worked with the truck off in my driveway, but they didn’t work the next day when I drove to work. With the engine running, the VLRpro6 resistors seem to slow down the voltage too much, only allowing the signal to blink once. I unplugged the hyperflash fix and now it works just fine—either with the engine on or off. Somebody else on here noted that they didn’t need the resistor with Triton V6 light but the rep at Vleds suggested I buy them anyway just in case.

See photos and associated captions for details.

Second, I followed the instructions provided by @swordfish. He told me to use a multimeter to isolate which wires triggered which function. Use your multimeter to identify the voltage of each connector on the harnesses when selecting a function. I.e.: ground will be constant 0, but which wire connector provides 12 amps when the brakes are selected? Or which connector provides 12 amps and which provides 0 amps when the tail lights are on without the brake pressed? The turn function will provide alternating amps to produce a flash since it’s turning on and off.

The details below pertain to the passenger side of a DCSB MT 2017 TRD OR.

Picture below: Here are the two connectors on the passenger side of the truck that serve the tail, brake, and turn lights in stock configuration.
    - White/Black=ground
    - Green=Tail light
    - Thin blue on harness at top=brake
    - Thick blue on harness at bottom=Tail+turn
    A800BA95-C84C-48D8-B22B-7FB752125A50.jpg

I disassembled the reverse harness so that I could salvage one of the connectors and reuse it when connecting it to the other tail/brake light. This is easily done by carefully prying out the rubber gasket and pulling the white retainer clip. (Niether rubber gasket or retainer clip are shown unfortunately).
    - White/Black=ground
    - Red=reverse
    9F1B3F09-2336-4645-B6BB-C8586D279262.jpg

I pulled the white retaining clip from the stock turn signal harness so I could release the thick blue brake/turn wire from the upper tail light harness. Then I used that connector to hook up to the new Triton switchback light. I used the newly vacated connector slot for the above sslvaged red reverse connector which was repurposed for the combined tail/brake ‘C’ light—I just slipped it into the place of the thick blue wire and replaced the white retainer clip.
    F9DF5AEA-F9F4-4CAB-AB5B-153C9402640C.jpg

This is the tail/brake only harness (no turn signal). While the colors of the wires are the same as the other tail/brake/turn harness of the tail light, the gauge of the blue wires is different.
    35C4DF00-D766-4450-8CCD-FFE4F4BB9943.jpg

I used the salvaged red reverse connector I mentioned above to splice into this thin blue wire to complete the red ‘C’ configuration to create a tail/brake light. The tritons came with a quality wire tap that I used to connect the two upper section harnesses to work in unison. I recommend cutting yourself a longer strip off the reverse connector than I did. Mine worked fine, but it would have been nice if it were a bit longer.
    4A921770-CB46-4692-A145-4B52FF2F3C2E.jpg

The last step was soldering the new Triton harness to the stock wires.
    - Triton red to stock Thick blue
    - Triton yellow to stock red
    - Triton black to stock white/Black
    199BA1F2-DA9B-4CB9-819A-AE0D1195A2C3.jpg

The driver side is accomplished via the same approach but the wire colors and/gauges may differ.

What size V6 did you use to put in the reverse socket? this is exactly what i want to do. Have the full C as brake and tail light. And load the reverse light section with a switch back for the turn and reverse.

thank you for the detailed write up. i will use your guide to get mines done!

    My pleasure.

Here’s the link to the Triton V6 product page.
    http://www.vleds.com/shop-products/v6-triton/switchback/v6-triton-wa.html

There doesn’t seem to be a size listed, but i know somebody on here knows what size it equates to. I should also clarify that I had to enlarge the socket hole on the tail light lens to accommodate the larger diameter of the V6.

However, I found that when I went to drive my kid to school this morning the signals wouldn’t work. see above for updated post to make these clarifications.
