Tactical Teardrop build

Hi. So my girlfriend and I go camping a couple times a year and we’re over the whole sleeping on the ground or in a tent so naturally a little camper seemed to fit the bill. We mostly go to state park campgrounds that have shower and bathroom facilities so we didn’t need a camper with that. We also don’t have much room to store it. I’d seen a few “teardrops” around and when I researched them it seemed like most of them were home built. Not being the type to just go buy a factory built model I decided it’d be fun to fab my own.

 

Started with a 5x8 Carry-On trailer I picked up from Lowe’s. I cut so much metal off it that I probably should have just welded up one of my own. I wanted a title though. Thought it’d be easier to license. But in Missouri I discovered you can license a home built without too much trouble. I scrapped all the lights and wiring too and reinstalled all led lights and rerouted the wires.

I'm looking forward to following this build. I would like to attempt the same thing one of these days.

 

Lol don’t worry the Frontier is gone and replaced with an 18 DCSB OR.

Finally started to look like a camper. Skinned in pre-painted aluminum. It was harder than heck to get shaped to the curves. Very springy. I used a full spread exterior grade mastic to adhere it and small nails at the edges which would be covered by trim. I bought factory second RV windows off eBay. They worked perfectly. Glued them in with silicone.

 

That’s why I’m posting this. It’s definitely a fun project and only as expensive as you want it to be. I had a little disposable income to use so I put everything in I wanted. But you could easily build one for less than I did.

 

What's your target weight? Looks heavy with double layer of plywood

 

Looks great! Paint it white and get NCC17017 personal plates on it, call it Galileo and you are ready to go!

Oh wait, when I first was writing this before posting it, you only had the basic plywood photos posted, now that I posted it I see you went ahead and posted more and it now looks more like a shuttle from the heavily armored and top secret NCC26229
