By the way what was your cruise speed set at when you tested it? Just to see if your comparing apple to apples when replicating, thanks.

Do you have an auto or manual transmission?

Bump it up to 72 like the OP said, not sure if he was in 5th or 6th though.

Since he changed lanes to get around the semi at the same time he tried accelerating with cruise on, he may have also encountered a pretty good headwind when he tried to come around the truck.

Plenty of variables to consider when duplicating what the OP reported in his first post.

I was in OD too though... it didnt take much pressure or movement of the pedal for it to downshift and go. Overall, Ive been totally impressed with my transmission- oh, oops - I shouldn’t have said that! :)

OP, give it another 1,000 miles, depending on when battery was pulled, and see if anything changes. The warranty just started. The Taco acts funky in some situations the first 2,000 miles or so. However, if you feel you need to take care of it now, do what Hartungs Road is suggesting.

Pretty sure in 6th gear at the time of passing but with these crazy shifting patterns who knows? When using "S" mode it would have been in 6th gear at 72 MPH from past experience.

Not looking to sell or trade, like the truck and see no others on the market I would want. To me this is an issue, will see if it straighten out with a little more time. And wait to see what Toyota say and go from there.

S mode is a gear limiter so yes you could have been in 6th if you were in S6.

When I'm running 70 on a flat road I'm at about 1800 rpms in 6th, 2100 rpms in 5th so there's really no major perception unless you're looking at the tach or are familiar with what speeds at what rpm to determine what gear. I do know that when I'm in 6th in cruise and I accelerate and it drops down to 5th it almost never kicks back to 6th unless I disengage cruise, adjust speed to move it up to 6th then re-engage cruise.

It's smwhat I've learned from a truck that has 2 OD gears and 30k miles on it.

Didn't mean to imply I was in "S" mode, I was not. I was in "D". Just saying probably in 6th gear at that speed.

Then you would probably have to really push the accelerator to get it to kick down a gear or two and pass.

When I'm in cruise and I want to increase or decrease speed I usually just toggle the cruise lever up or down a few times to increase /decrease the cruise setting. If I really need to get around something I either mash the gas or just disengage cruise, get around what I need to then reset it.

Efficient? Not really but it's learned behavior of driving the truck after 2 years and I have no problem with it. I usually just skip cruise altogether unless the highway is wide open, but thats rare where I live.
