@FHC for sure. Kind of hoping it’s well over the deductible to give them something to fight for.

You can probably pay 200 for painting the panel alone. Mixing a pint of paint is probably 100 plus 100 labor. That panel is only about 500 or so. If your paying to paint I would go ahead and get a new panel.

Did you get the name of the company or even remember the color of the trailer? I know it's a long shot but probably an owner op or smaller trucking company anyway thank God for insurance. The idiot driver probably didn't even know he swiped you, too many rookies and morons being steering wheel holders these days

I would also lower the deductible. To me that's way too high

Agreed on both points. For some reason I thought it was $1000. Must have increased for a lower premium.

I think mine is a 1000 and would like it lower but circumstances won't allow it at this time.

^ this...OP I hit a yeti cooler going home from the beach on the interstate and saw it fall of the guys truck. I had a $1000 deductible for collision & $500 for comprehensive from insurance(state farm) was sure it would be comprehensive, but SF decided since I was "traveling" on a public road it would be collision ($1000).. long story. I pay more a month but have a smaller deductible. Well worth it .

I was sitting at a light one day and a guy towing a small car hauler turned right , running thru a yellow light and the trailer jumped the curb and ripped a bicycle out of some guys hands . Guy was waiting to walk his bike thru the intersection. Truck kept right on going .Bike totaled ,I yelled to the guy “are you alright “ and he says “ look what he did to my bike “ !

That paint color can be hard to match. They should paint the whole side to make it blend well. Good luck with everything because this situation sucks.

Wait until the police get the turd that hit and left the scene. Then let your insurance go after them to pay. Not sure on the deductible, but worst cause small claims court to sue the trucking company for the $2000 PLUS for the diminished value on your NEW truck as it's now been in an accident.

    Good luck.

Many years ago, my parked car in a parking lot got hit, a witness left a note with color of car and license plate on my windshield. I went to PD and filed a police report. They verified the color of car and license plate matched. I went to my insurance company with the police report and they said to get it fixed. I pay the deductible. They'll work with PD to track down the other party. Once they get other party to pay, I get my deductible back. I say within 2 weeks, I received a check in the mail from my insurance company returning my deductible. It was a really smooth process.

In my case, it seemed like that note somebody left was worth it's weight.

They can match it if it’s a good shop. Taco Bandit (now Bandit Off-Road) on YouTube got side swiped very similarly on a trail (hit and run also), and he had to replace pretty much the exact same parts and they matched it well on a Quiksand truck.

OP - Stay positive and just know you make get it fixed well plus get justice for the hit and run. Really sucks to hear man.

I tried to find the vid where he showed the paint and parts and how you couldn’t even tell it was damaged but I can’t find it.

Can't sue for diminished value while still owning the vehicle. You have to show damages. I had that happen to me.
You must sell it, get proof from dealer showing the loss because of the accident.

After you make a claim your insurance may go up for 3 years. You pay for that and the $2000 deductible. Since it was not your fault I hope you get to skip all that. Good luck.

You can definitely get dimished value if you still own the vehicle. It has happened to me so I know this for sure. As long as the other driver has insurance, they will pay it. You pretty much have them by the balls if they are at fault. Also, with a hit and run that makes you even more capable of doing what you need to do to get your money.

Mine was 500 and I went to 1000 to save on the premium, it actually made a good difference. Luckily, in my 12 years of driving I haven't had to use it so I've already saved well over 500 in premiums if I did need it.
