Wondering if the 3.5L is or will be as reliable as the 2.7L has been know for? What are your thoughts.

2.7 is great for picking up chicks maaaan. They get all weak in the knees for that long life and great mileage.

The 3.5 has too many moving parts to be reliable.....

Honestly, who the fuck knows. The 3.5L hasn't been around long enough to know its reliability. The 2.7L is a proven tough motor for sure. I've had both and honestly I liked the 2.7L allot and probably wouldn't have upgraded if I didn't tow so often.

My worry is with the transmission shifting a lot on some of the 3.5's. That can't be good for long life for the transmission. I think the 6 speed auto just pairs better with the 2.7 for whatever reason and the manuals are awesome for both. It's too bad they did away with it for the 2.7 though.

Just get the manual then, eliminate the nonsense. Both Tacoma's I've had have been manuals, both have been great!

Do you need to know, or care?
    3.5 will outlast the 2.7...only because I have the 3.5. :D

This engine has been use in Lexus models for many years. It's been proven reliable.
