I have a 1987 Toyota 2sdk-8 diesel skid steer. I have always maintained it for many years after I stopped using it commercially. It would always start right up and it's all original with 2900 hours on it. Due to taking care of my bedridden father I've not started it for about 4 years. What steps should I take to prevent a dry start and damaging a internals on engine. I'm going to get new battery. Drain fuel and replace fuel filter but concerned about if motor has dry Pistons or bearings. Tia

Also change engine oil and filter and just crank it with the injection pump disconnected so it won't start. That should get the oil into places it needs to be for proper lubrication. Also check hydro filter
