I did mine during the winter and had the same issue...tried goo gone but could still see it. I said to myself that I'll wait till the spring to take care of the rest as we had bad weather during the winter and truck was always dirty, covering it up. Now it's spring and I don't see it anymore lol

So you think it’s still residue? The paint feels the same everywhere across this area now, and i was already a little worried I’d scrubbed too hard with a microfiber (if that’s possible).

Thanks. I’ll give that a try.

And ParadiseCityZ, I wondered if time, sun, road grime and fading would blend it in and it’s just go away. I will try that too!

One more thing, this is my first new vehicle and the first one I’ve ever really cared about the paint on! Kinda sucks. So much easier to have something I don’t give an F about. But I love my truck. So I’ll keep caring.

WD40 will take it all off without damaging the paint. Just scrub it aggressively with a good clean soft towel. You will be surprised how well it works.

Okay, so I’ve scrubbed and scrubbed with wd40, then a dry microfiber, then more wd40, then again with dry. It’s slowly going away. It’s looking like it’s leaving streaky lines in the paint. It was hard to see in the bright sun. So I’ll see how it looks in the morning and try again. Another friend suggested Windex too. Definitely going to need the wax with all the chemicals I’m throwing at it.

Home Depot carries a Porter Cable dual action polisher. Highly recommend that, Meguiars M205 and a Lake Country Hydro-tech polishing pad. Worth the money to clean up any minor scratching/abrasions left by scrubbing with a microfiber towel. I would not keep throwing random chemicals at the paint.

What he said. I used a D/A polisher when I took my badges off because I had that same problem. You’d have to try real hard to mess up the paint with a DA, if you use a rotary, I’d be cautious with the body lines close by.

Automotive paint cleaners? There is a reason these products are available...they work for restoring and cleaning your painted surfaces while protecting the clear coat of your vehicle. Meguiars makes a great paint cleaner (but there are plenty of paint cleaners), then use a paint polish and a quality sealant (hearing great things about Chemical Guys...but still have so many in my car care bin I haven't tried them yet). Obviously don't do steps 2 & 3 until you are satisfied with how the paint looks when doing step 1(the cleaning of the paint). If it's still there, go after it a little more with the polish.

WD-40, Windex, Goo-Gone while not destroying your clear coat, WILL damage the clear coat even though you may not see it with the naked eye. Those products are not meant to be applied to fine painted surfaces...but if you guys do that to your trucks then that's fine with me (just don't touch my paint with those things).

Believe it or not that exact same thing happened to me with my old Acura TL and this stuff buffed it right out. It's the one and only time I've ever found this stuff to be useful for anything. Just buffed it out with this using a micro fiber cloth.

Cool. Thanks! I still haven’t made it to the store, so I’ll look for that stuff. I’ve had good luck with nu finish products.

Windex is essentially ammonia and alcohol. That’s a bad combination for your paint and clearcoat.

This was taken with the DJI Spark. If you have the budget, a Mavic Pro would be the ticket. The Spark is an excellent value.
