I have a 17 OR with stock suspension but I also have front and transmission skid plates. Does anyone have experience with fins and things in Moab? Will my truck handle it?
And side note I have decent experience with off road driving

Good question & that's great that your doing some research before hand. Tacomas can handle a lot of off road trails. From my perspective experience/good judgment is more important than all the bells & whistles on an off road vehicle. I've seen a lot of souped-up off road vehicles that look great, but without a good driver/spotter it doesn't mean much. Sometimes they depend too much on the vehicle getting them to through, rather than good judgment. I will say this though, getting some good all terrain tires do help a lot rather than the stock one's!

I can go on & on but Perhaps this article may help. Good luck & enjoy.

    ^^^great advise.

I’d also try out renting a Razor for 1/2 or full day and notice the difference on how much quicker you’d get around stuff.

Great idea HenryP! Some people don't know about that option.

While you can likely run Fins N' Things, due to your approach and departure angles, be prepared to drag in places. Fins is rated hard, but it's truly not, though there are a couple steep/tall drop offs where you'll definitely drag ass.

This is probably the most likely spot to drag the rear bumper:

Did it last year. 5" total lift in rear and my toe hitch dragged multiple times. Same with brothers 4runner. But you can make it.

That's the spot alright. After I drug my hitch and flattened the trailer connector bracket on that I had doubts I should be doing the trail solo in a stock OR Access Cab. After a couple more obstacles I hit the road that splits the North and South loops and decided to cut my losses and never did the North Loop.

I'd suggest you buy "Guide To Moab, UT Backroads & 4 Wheel-Drive Trails" by Charles A Wells. Much recommended book I bought after Fins & Things. It's a great guide, get it and look through it before you go.

I’d stick with the green and blue trails on that book. Unless you like very slow crawling. The red trails might require a winch and hours of slow technical driving.

I’ll never understand why toyota thought it was a good idea to put these tiny street slicks on their flagship OFF ROAD trucks.

Definitely get some good all terrains... take your time, buy that guide book, and expect a bit of dragging...

I fully agree with you JBrandt....One theory is to keep those mpg's down to a minimum to meet federal standards with those stock tires. That way they (Toyota) comply with the regulations & let the consumer deal with whatever after the purchase. If Toyota was to improve the tires then they would have to find a way to invest more money on the vehicle to make it lighter or make it more aerodynamic to offset the heavier tires. They are should at least put better tires on the Off-Road & Pro.
But back to the main topic, like you suggested, get the tires, take his time, get a guide, expect that ass to drag a bit & have fun doing so. If your off roading your bound ding stuff anyways.

    A little a this, a little a that...
I did it in my 21014 OR with just a mild lift up front and made it. But it took forever and I dragged my ass all over it. I went back with more lift in back and 33” tires and had a lot more fun. It’s a very cool trail, not real hard but you’ll need a spotter and take it slow in places. There are a few spots you can bail if you’re not enjoying it.

All they’d need to do is get 60-80 mpg from their other vehicles, you know the ones designed for the road... which shouldn’t be that hard, they’re already pretty close to that anyway. Then they could put some actual off road tires on their off road trucks...

That ledge on GBR is no joke! It's cool as hell to see a Tacoma climbing it! (It's amazing how the line has changed over the years. 15 years ago you climbed it far left.)
