My first oil change was at 10K miles. They just did the tire rotation and fluid levels at the 5K check up. Probably going to keep taking it to the dealer until the warranty expires and then will probably have a friend who owns a shop do it for me. Always leery of the dealer and what they say they do or the truck needs. Like @toyotatacomaTRD stated some quick change places are worse. I don't wash my truck before taking it in for service especially if they're going to rotate the tires. I always check to see if the front are on the back and use the break dust as a way to check.

I didn't have my oil changed until 10k. Toyota did it at 10k and 20k. I did 30k and 40k.... sent my oil for my changes to Blackstone Labs and all looked good.

I NEVER used the dealer for any reason other than to buy stuff.
Yesterday I left my truck there for a general bill of health (service advisor advice) and all OK, all fluids levels normal (including tranny) but they found my battery bad and replaced it.
I change ALL my fluids in the driveway. Done it for over 30 years.

Good for you. Not everyone has the interest or want to do such things. Not everybody wants to spend their time wrenching. Not everyone wants to be like you.

I did my own oil change at 5k and 15k with no problem of the filter housing being too tight. I still believe Toyota torqued too tight at the 20k oil change. If you want it done right, do it yourself.

I did the same thing yesterday at 5125 miles. I know some will say it’s a waste but I just feel better going ahead and getting it done.

I did my first oil change a 1040 miles. LOL!

Plan on doing them every 5k, but we'll see.

I spend a lot of time on dusty rough roads. I mean half of the miles, but the majority of the drive time.
Severe service schedule. So oil gets changed every 5 k but I don’t bother with the filter until the 10k intervals.

You would probably be better off doing a filter change every 5k instead.
