Im not picking on you, just your choice to try and belittle the people you used to work hand in hand with...and then only half ass apologize for it with a humble brag.
As one of those people who’s made a career in the automotive industry, that was birthed by the hard work put in at the dealership instead of on a campus, I take slight exception to it....so I’m just going to put this into perspective for you....

The median home value in Virginia is $247,786.

That mortgage payment you’re using as a crutch to try and substantiate how much better you are than a pothead, dropout, grease monkey...wouldnt have covered my mother’s day dinner bill lastnight, before the tip.

The truth is..that most of those people you look down your nose at, end up making solid careers in the automotive industry, making more than that mortgage payment in a week, more than you clear in a month in a single pay period, and more than that house annually.

We have people here that dig ditches for a living and we have people engineering aerospace components and lawyers and accountants and garbage men and farmers and everything in between. Everyone is equal here, that is until they post stupid shit. Then all bets are off.

Apparently the only scum of the earth here is car salesmen...

You're reaching a little too hard.... Also, I wish my house cost what you posted. Check out the DMV market if you ever get a chance. There is a difference between a lazy ass person with no drive than a tech working his ass off turning hours day and night. I've met people on both ends of the spectrum, and have an incredible amount of respective for the latter.

I worked part time in a tire/lube shop for a while with my bachelors degree in business. I just kinda like getting my hands dirty. Treated every car/truck like it was my own. Never had an oil out or crossed thread. Worked side by side with some of those guys you label. There's far more people that are good at there job and care about the quality of work that they do than those who don't. Don't be so judgemental.

I think the OP did a decent job of trying to retract the portion of his post about declaring some "drop outs" might be handling the oil changes. I think its sort of beating a dead horse at this point if you still have your feathers in a bunch although yes, there are many skilled folks who have dropped out in succeeded in life. I think OP was meaning for the folks who might have dropped out simply because they didn't care to persue things on their own or wanted to find ways to be competitive on their own. Case and point are my girl and my old roomie...high school was a waste for both of them and they couldnt have graduated early. Since they both resided in northern VA and the rules up here can be rather dickish in regards to high school credits/class requirements, they simply bail a year or two early...my girl becomes a nurse, roomie goes on to college and eventually ends up a lawyer. They went around the system, cool man, things worked out and they made their green.

Then you get the sad dude named Ricky that got his girl preggo at 16. Could have manned up if he wanted, but dropped out. Finds himself working at a dealership, finds complacency with his wages, doesn't persue further. Im sure he eventually made more than $15 an hour, but still lives at home and is a half ass father. Like OP, Im not pointing fingers at folks, but before you start blasting...understand that folks of both sides of the coin exist. To think guys who drop out always amount to something isn't always true...sadly I know a few other stories where guys are approaching 40 and yea the bare minimum grind fulfills their lives. They have found their place...but they arnt exactly ass kicking. But life is all about perspective right?

I understand your pain man...I live in the DMV area. My rents pad alone that is a 4 bedroom is a cool mil. If I had to guess Im sure you are at about a half easily. But at this point Im beyond the scope of the argument here.

To conclude, some do the standard educational system and can still amount to crap while others succeed. Like my girl and roomie...some dip and succeed on their terms. Then you get the bums who dip because they simply want the easy way everyday and well...that's that.

As far as this thread, I appreciate the insight from both here as I don't work in the auto industry and so any info to save money and help identify honest folks can only help me as well as others.
