I have seen a lot of threads on the headunit rebooting issues but nothing seems to definitively answer my question as to the remedy.

Basically, my stock head unit in my 2014 Tacoma works perfectly until I try to connect via Bluetooth to my phone. Once I turn off the Bluetooth on phone, it never reboots. I have unpaired and ‘forgotten’ the phone / stereo on the respective devices and that did not fix the issue. It’s been sporadic since I bought the truck in January 2018, but for the last 2 days it has been nonstop.

Can someone please tell me what they did to fix this?

Is the solution to buy an aftermarket headunit and dispose of this garbage stock piece of crap? If you do replace it, what would you get? I’d still want a headunit that I could use the USD, aux, and steering wheel controls.

    Thanks in advance guys

The dealer can upgrade the firmware.

I saw that as a potential solution on other threads - is this something they do free?

Does this solve the problem or just reduce the occurrance? I thought I saw a few people say it did not fix the issue?

You could try updating it yourself, and see if it corrects the problem:

    Maybe.

The 'what' is kinda up to you. But you can retain the functionality you want with some units by using an adapter kit.

www.crutchfield.com is a good place to poke around and see some options.

Thanks... I am not one to trick out my car stereo... I much prefer the badass stereo in my boat any day. I just wondered if anyone had given up on the stock radio and upgraded to aftermarket, and what was a good replacement.

    How?

Unless you have the NAV radio, the updates are unavailable for 2014 & 2015 on that web site.

Did you get the firmware from another link?

OK, so update… I went out to the truck and see there was a software update 11/12/16 – to 01019A. So there is an update after this…

I unpaired my phone from the truck again and the truck from the phone.

Here’s a new scenario: I added the device as an audio device, but denied it the permissions to access my contacts and messages… Bluetooth audio working perfectly and I am able to make calls… This may be short-lived, BUT for now, the BT audio worked for 5 minutes without a reboot.

This what I get when I click get updates:

you are not posting the full page... there is not a download link for 2014.

If someone has the file for a 2014 update, would you be willing to email it to me?
