They vary. Check with the administrator or each campground via their site or (if run by the NPS) recreation.gov

When I went it was February. I stayed in one of their small rustic cabins which had a gas fireplace and ate at the lodge. The cabin was reasonable, the food was good but a bit pricey. But you are a long way from anywhere.

I hiked the Emerald Pool trail and some other trails along the river. https://www.citrusmilo.com/zionguide/emeraldpools.cfm

It was a beautiful clear, but cool day. That night it snowed about 2". When I got up the next day, the clouds were breaking, so as the sun lit the gorge, everything looked totally different than it had the day before. So I rehiked a good bit and retook photos to get sort of a 2 season effect.

Great place, but try to be sure to miss full blown tourist season when they only allow buses in the park. Or at least they used to.

I'm thinking the second week in September of next year. Would really like to see these places more in the fall than in spring time

Sadly, ‘tourist season’ runs nearly 10 months long now... and any holidays during those other two months bring them running back.

would the second week in September be a good idea? It would be during the week, schools back in session I believe and labor day would be the week/weekend before

Mid week is always better. (Defined as T-W-Th). Cooler weather brings out many, even though typical -schools in session- would normally apply. Not so much anymore.

Also keep in mind, Sept 22 is a free day. Lots of visitors on that day (and all free days)

The Temple is a sandstone amphitheater over 4400 feet in elevation. There’s no water up there.
Maybe you’re thinking of the Riverside Walk and into the Narrows?
