Hey i had a noise and i fixed it and i thought maybe someone else might be tearing their hair out trying to figure it out so here's a write up about it.
Iv been running allpros standard leaf springs for about 6 months and over the last month i developed a really bad banging noise from the rear of the truck, sounded like gunshots and it happened whenever the suspension moved at all. I made sure all the ubolts were tight and everything was solid. I figured it had to be the bushings binding up so i bought a set of Energy Suspension bushings and sleeves off of Amazon and swapped them out. (side note: allpro spring eyes are the same size as stock and use stock size bushings contrary to what the fella from allpro tried to tell me.... new guy?" anyways.. the energy suspension bushings were great quality and a definite improvement over the ones that come with allpros leaf springs... but that didnt fix my banging noise even a little bit. So while i had the truck on the lift, i unbolted the shocks, stuck a screw jack under the axle and cycled the springs up and down and immediatly discovered what the problem was. the 2 clamps on the front half of each spring that are rivited to the bottom spring and wrap up around all of them, were binding to the top leaf due to rust, undercoating, paint, i dont know but they were too tight. As the spring packs shifted, the clamps would "jump" about half an inch back and forth as the spring compressed and depressed. so i took a pry bar and a hammer and bent the ends of the clamps up just a little bit and sprayed some PB blaster on them and that was that. The noise is completely gone. I was really surprised that 2 little clamps could make that much noise but thats what it was. tomorrow ill grease up the area a little just for good measure. hope this helps somebody. here's some picsIMG_8694.jpg IMG_8554.jpg IMG_8699.jpg IMG_8698.jpg
