I went 8 years with one on my old 3.4L with no leaks. My prerunner doesn’t have a skid plate for the oil pan so I’ll skip one for the 4.0L.

I'm guessing someone is far more likely to get into a collision than have one of these valves fail. That said I just get a kind of satisfaction seeing the oil drain out of my pan with the force of an uninhibited drain lol

I have used the fumoto valves for years on different vehicles with no problems. Recently went with a EZdrain valve because it has a faster flow.

If you have a skid plate, this is the way to go.

If you plan on keeping your truck for 500k or more you are protecting the threads in the pan. Every time you tighten the drain plug down a little bit of metal gets scraped off the threads. Not a lot, but over time (20-30-40 oil changes) you're saving threads, time and knuckle skin.

I love mine! No drips, no mess, works perfectly. I've basically forgotten about it

I’ve only had mine for about 50,000 worry free miles. I put a small zip tie around it locking the lever in place just in case something were to grab it.

Mine came with a little plastic piece that locks it into place to prevent it from opening accidentally.

Added a zip tie the last time I had my skid off, the small one fits in the groove and the valve will not open unless I cut it off.

That's a great idea. I have these on two of my vehicles and will add a zip tie next time they need an oil change.

I did but Amazon wanted like $4 for the clip and another $4 to ship it. If I could get them shipped free with Prime I would go that route. I've gotten spoiled. I hate paying for shipping.

I've had a couple with a metal retaining ring that came with the fumoto plug.
