He flew from the side of the road, right into me as I was going 80mph. He was still alive when I pulled him out, but his wings were shredded so I chopped his head off with an ax. Pretty interesting morning so far.

At least it’s not a skunk or a possum, which are impossible to kill!

Awe, poor thing. I hit a crow a few years ago driving back from Fallon, NV for work and it broke two horizontal bars of the Chevy Silverado's grille. It flew up from the side of the road directly in front of me, made an attempt to fly forward to get away, but it just wasn't enough. I saw his mangled body on the road behind me to when I looked in the rear view mirror to see if it was there or stuck in the grille. It cost over $500 to fix and I had to write a full on accident report for the gov't agency I work for which took me all day ( diagrams, speed estimates included, avoidance methods used, etc. ). Okay, you're gonna make me waste my day doing this, fine, let's have some fun with it. I researched flight speed of crows, stated that witnesses were either uncooperative, flew from the scene, or I couldn't overcome language barriers to communicate properly. I called the CHP to get an accident report as required and was laughed at. I even called the Crow Indian Nation Council ( or whomever it was I found for them ) for input and was also laughed at. Next of kin could not be located, etc. I documented all of this to fulfill the requirements of the federal accident report and I really developed a full on story and fluffed it out quite a bit. Then I submitted it.

About two weeks later, I get a call from HQ in Virginia and the guy told me that his duty assignment of going over these accident reports is normally really boring, but the occasional one gets him smiling. Mine had him laughing so loud, that everyone within ear shot came over to see what was going on with him, someone else had to read it, they all cracked up. Needless to say, they approved my request for repairs. To this day, it is still one of the longest running jokes in my local office.

Ahhh...lucky it wasn't a turkey. A turkey might have taken out your radiator.
