Air Pistol

I'd like to buy an air pistol - either .177 pellet or BB. I have to admit, the main reason is to keep squirrels, and woodpeckers off of the house.

I was wondering if anyone has any information or opinions on what would be a nice accurate pistol under $130.00.

My husband and I shoot airsoft and we have our own arsinal of guns. My husbands airsoft pistol doesn't shoot very high in FPS (feet per second) because it can't (regulations for our playing field). I'm not sure what's available that'll go faster than 200+ FPS. We've shot rabbits in the backyard with it and it doesn't do much in terms of 'ouch' factor.

However.... We have an old steal bb pump action bb gun at the house that I've used also. As much as I hate to admit it, killed a rabbit with it (accidentally of course). Too many pumps on that gun renders a very fast and powerful bb.

For the amount of time you're gonna use it.... I'd look for a pump action that doesn't require any batteries or gas to operate it. Just pump it up and shoot. It'll always be ready for you to use. Steal or pellets, doesn't matter.

Seriously though, I do have that air rifle I linked in my previous post. I would hate to get hit by a pellet from it.

You need at least 8-12 ft lbs of energy to kill these thing. Although I can be done, I don't reccommend it with a pistol due to innaccuray and low energy.

I'd get a spring piston rifle in .22. It has more weight in grains. The .177 is way to light. do not shoot BB's. they are steel and do not expand and are not accurate as soft lead pellets going down some rifling. Plus on impact, they expand and dump their energy, killing more quickly.

For clean humane kills please use a spring piston rifle in .22 cal. Look at Beeman in google. This is a break barrel gun, that loads at the breech, when you cock the barrel by "breaking" it from a ball detent. Then when you pull it back, you compress a large single spring that when fired, released its energy which then pushes a "top hat". This is a thing that pushes air from the decompressed spring, out of the spring chamber to the port that leads to the breech.

This then propels the pellet. They are very powerful, usually, 600- 1000fps. And with a .22 placed in the vitals or head is sure to kill.

Check out Airgun forums as well, known as the "yellow forums" Lots of links at the top. Straightshooters, Pomona Airguns, Airguns of Arizona, Compasseco, etc. All good to deal with. Spend a little more, aroung the $200-300 range and you'll be happy.

I don't think I want a rifle - a little too cumbersome and obvious in my neighborhood.

I'm not so sure I want to kill them as much as scare the *@#t out of them, so it doesn't need to be high powered. I just want something quality made, will last and is accurate.

OK, if pistol it is you may try the Beeman P1 magnum. Power of a rifle in the size of a pistol and avail in .20 cal (heavier pellets).

If you don't want to take them out, get an airsoft gun like Janster was talking about. They shoot a 6mm plastic bb that hurts like a bitch when you get hit but does no permanent damage.
