7E607461-0E28-4BA4-A6EE-DD5DDBF4A380.jpg So I’m not very big into aftermarket stuff since I commute with my tacoma. It’s a prerrunner so I don’t off-road. But I like the black wheel look on Tacoma’s. I’ve thought long and hard about plasti dip but I’m a automotive Buyer and I see the plasti dip after it has faded and doesn’t look good anymore. So I stumble upon wheel skins. I was skeptical until I noticed that Chevy is putting them on their midnight edition silverados and normally that’s what are on new factory cars/trucks with chrom wheels, they are chrom or black skins. So what do you guys think? $69.99 for a set. Let the haters begin but I like them. Hers what they look like

I dunno man, I think that would look pretty cheesy, but I guess I haven't seen one in real life sooo.... The thing with plasti-dip is it comes off easy if it starts to fade/chip and you want to get rid of it, or you can just touch it up. I dipped the wheels on my last pickup and it looked pretty dang good until the day I sold them which was after like two years of driving. And that truck saw a lot of dirt/gravel roads too with minimal chipping/fading. As far as ultra-cheap ways to turn your wheels black go, I think plasti-dip is probably your best bet.

    I'd just Plastidip.
Has worked great for me..no fading several years..
Plastidip is surprisingly tough once fully cured.
I'd bet the "skins" get scratched.. ripped and/or tear also and the repair would be much more involved :notsure:

It’s not a paper skin. It’s like a hub cap fitted to your stock rim

I think it looks nice and way easier than plasti dip (if you plasti dip rims the “right way”)

I bet nobody will even be able to tell that its not a black painted wheel. The 18" limited Tacoma wheels are chrome "cladded", which is the same thing.

I say go for it. They're cheap enough. I would wonder if they will scratch up the finish on the wheels underneath though once grit from the road gets under it.

    I guess you'll find out..

@Fitz235 they had foam padding strips on the back to maintain spacing between wheel and skin

They don't look bad at all! Nothing wrong with those from the pictures at least.

I'd like to try blacks wheels until I can afford nicer wheels and tires, so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

Go for it. The limited "chrome" wheels for 3rd gen are skins aka hub cabs. And I agree that plastidip is not great for durability. At least my experience
