I got $10 a week for doing my chores (firewood, feeding the pets/livestock, mucking out stalls, doing laundry, vacuuming, etc) until I got my first job. Then I didn't get an allowance any more but still had to do the chores  This was in the 90's, fwiw, and I got my first job in '98 or '99

    Always the capitalist.

Owned my own lawn mower @ age 11.

Sold joints in the high school parking lot @ age 16. (More profitable than you might imagine)

    Loan shark in the Army

    Worked my ass off since.

    Own several rental houses.

    Just about ready to retire.

Living proof you can never be too rich or too good looking :D

In my last 25 years loan sharking has been the absolute most profitable venture for me

My wife and I come from two completely different styles of living, her parents own an auto parts warehouse and rental properties and my ass was working on a farm at 14. I had to work for literally everything I have while she had/ has stuff given to her regularly. When my kids are old enough, I'm gonna make damn sure they work for their money.
I feel like if you work your ass off and buy what you want, you're less likely to fuck around with it and break it and take better care of it overall instead of having things handed to you, you don't really understand the "value" of it
