Did you ever get this sorted out? I did this mod today and drove around afterwards. On my third trip out and about today, the Check Engine and Traction Control lights lit up. I double checked my wires I cut/capped/grounded in the OP's instructions and I did it correctly.

Coincidence. Check for codes. Reset. Good to go.

So I'm throwing a P1500 code. AC Inverter Malfunction. The outlet appears to work fine. The 100/400 LEDs on the switch light up and the Christmas lights I've plugged into the outlet in the bed light up just fine. Any ideas?

*EDIT* I was unable to resolve this issue. Moving forward, I'll be installing a 3000 watt inverter to replace the OEM unit. My goal is to replace the bed outlet with one that can handle the higher load, as well as installing an outlet inside the cab some where.

Check the AC frequency (Hz). If a replacement is needed I would recommend a Pure Sine inverter.

Can you tell me the resolution you found to your problem. I am having the same problem after following the instructions verbatim. And help would be appreciated. I completed the mods, didn’t work. I then put it all back how it originally was and still can not get the truck to start. Checkig Fuse’s as we speak but nothing has popped.

Anyone install an inline fuse with this setup? (I didn't read all 28 pages)

Thinking of installing two dual USB/120V outlets. One on the back of the console, another inside. I'm always cautious of my electrical wiring and never want to exceed draw. Was thinking of something as such:Inverter Wiring.jpg

I won't be charging multiple devices at a time, just want the ability to plug in anywhere I need to. I'm just curious why I'm not seeing anyone else (in the first 5 pages I read) install one. Is there no need?

I just completed this mod on my truck. however, when I plug in my phone the power going to the outlet is so low it doesn't even register. I checked with a power meter and confirmed power is streaming, just not nearly enough to charge anything. Any suggestions on what I did wrong?

I want to do this mod, but I also want to be able to turn the inverter on with the key in accessory. Does this mod accomplish that, and if not, what would I have to change to make that happen?

I grounded it just as it said in the tutorial. Would wire gauge impact power? I am using 14 gauge.

14ga is fine. And would not effect power when not under load.

RESOLUTION: Rookie mistake. I opened it up again to test voltage coming from the inverter. I severed the hot wire a little bit and so I lost a lot of power there. I fixed the wire and everything is working as it should. Thanks for ideas!

I did this mod and cut the violet wire with a white stripe but I still can’t get 400w while driving? 2014 Tacoma

You only did part of what’s necessary. Go back and reread the OP to get the rest taken care of.

I know this thread is kinda old but does anyone have a guide or tips for troubleshooting an inverter that isn't working?

Check fuses and connections then go buy a pure sine wave inverter.
