My mom had one for a number of years from the early 2000's (don't remember exact year) up through 2015. They looked at getting another one but some changes to whatever was current then turned them off. I seem to recall it failed some kind of crash rating too. Ended up going with a 4 Runner instead, but then they also decided they wanted to upsize a bit to be able to take trips out here with something that could go somewhat offroad, because the truck(s) had become increasingly unreliable for a long distance trip and the Rav just wasn't big enough.

It's... newer? I think it had just opened up when I was last there in 2014. Definitely not too long before that. Personally, I wasn't overly impressed with it for the price, but then it is Telluride (and it wasn't bad unlike some other burger places I will never return to). I remember being somewhat disappointed in restaurants that trip. Several of the 'old favorites' were gone, and not many new ones had taken their place. Not sure if more has come in since then or not. Now, the barbeque place, that was still good. I kind of liked their old location in the house better, but having that outdoor patio area at the new location was pretty nice.

I know right? Climax (which is in Lake County) Jerky in Summit County using a picture from Gunnison County. Now, it is one of the most photographic structures in the state...

Wasn't any fence when I was there, but then that might have been before you since it's been a while. There are definitely lots of spots along the road where people camp/fish from, but that point in particular the creek is down an eight foot or so steep embankment with no real non-destructive access (ie, there's paths you can take but they're the erroded gully kind). Maybe they fenced it off because of that, or the fall hazard since it's right at the edge of the road there.

Interestingly enough, the one trip my parents did bring the Rav out here. You are correct that most of the stuff there is private land, including the mill itself and both sides of the creek and road in that immediate area. It's kind of a mess of old mining claims that have been assembled into parcels and are surrounded by USFS land with little strips and pockets thereof all mixed in.

Completely new service. Currently just a pole with wires at the top.

Need to add a meter there and outlets i can use for camper and construction.

When house is built I'll probably leave the meter there (if it's fine) and trench to the house.

I'll also probably put solar panels and any needed electrical junk near the post or on another post near it if needed.

Oh yeah there are plenty of private property signs in the area but didn't notice any fencing.

A few of the pullout or camping spots on the way there looked like you could access the water. And i guess all along the highway as well.

Any welders in Colorado Springs (including those who are just learning) up for what should be a quick project?

I picked up a used hitch mount cargo carrier.

I was thinking of picking up one of those collapsible metal dog kennels and using the walls of the kennel as the walls of this cargo carrier.

What the carrier looks like (this one isn't mine):
    00n0n_95cZLCeZ4Kz_1200x900.jpg

What I'm looking to accomplish with the metal sides of a dog kennel:
    cargocarrier.jpg

Looking for the cheapest route possible here. Don't want to pay for a brand new one. This thing is used to haul trash, so I don't care what it looks like... so long as it's functional. Doesn't have to be elaborate... just tac'd on would probably do the trick.

Note: The sides don't have to fold, or pivot, or anything crazy like that.

Any welders up for the assist? Or do you have any ideas (dirt cheap or free)?

Another Note: If you have any scrap metal that you think could accomplish this; and you're willing to part with it, please let me know.

I also contemplated something like that. Using those expandable baby gates. Figured I could pick up a handful of them from LetGo for a couple of bucks. Then just fasten them to the carrier some how.

Easiest way would be to cut that top bar off and reuse it. Add supports around it to hold the dog kennel panels and upper bar. Tac everything together.

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
Well for the meter you will need to talk to you power company, then you will need a panel below that, and then feed your outlets from there. If you want to get more in-depth with codes and how to do it please pm me and we can exchange numbers and we can talk from there.

Thanks. Went to Lowes and they only had a 5 'something or other... prong, lug, dunno' meter box. I didnt realize there were different size meters. They dont stock anything else so I'm hoping IREA uses that size/configuration meter. Got an outdoor breaker panel for below that and a weatherproof setup for the outlets and the goodies in between. I'll call IREA in the morning and see if I can get the info or track down the electrician that'll be making sure it is good to go before I start putting stuff together.

Another thing that I'm thinking of now is the solar deal. As far as the research, it looks like solar panels go through an inverter or inverters then tie into the breaker panel. Does the size matter or will the same small 8 breaker panel work for connecting a panel array into?

Speaking of solar, @EAF4Runner did you decide what setup you are going with?

I think at first I am going to go with the Zamp 160 portable kit. It's $750 and I just hook it to my battery. Whole kit weighs 35lbs. If I go up to the 200w kit it weighs 47lbs which would probably be a bit too much for the wife to handle. Also the 200w system is just all around bigger and it won't fit in the storage compartment. The trailer should be prewired for solar on the roof so I might add a 160w or 200w panel up there in the future. I already have a Yamaha generator so if I need a little extra power to charge the batteries I can just fire that up for a little bit.

Zamp make flexible panels? Flexible would be great for the roof so there are not more penetrations from mounting stuff.

Have you looked at the Renogy Suitcase? Its much cheaper. https://amzn.to/2IUiqAN I'd definitely use Renogy again, not sure if they make flexible yet though.

Zamp doesn't make flexible panels. I did find out that I can get mounts to use 3m VHB(very high bond) tape so I won't have to drill any holes. Local solar panel installer said he uses that tape and hasn't had any issues over the years, should stick really good on the smooth fiberglass roof.
I looked into renogy, their 200w suitcase system is out of stock with no time frame of being in stock and their 100w system just isn't enough power.
I keep reading great reviews about Zamp. Even though they are more expensive, I think it's worth it. Looked at a 80w suitcase in town and it was top notch quality.

I take that back. Zamp does make flexible solar panels.

Called around trying to get a quote for having my spare tire mounted. One shop seems especially bright

    tire shop: what size?
    Me: 305/65R17
tire shop: oh, you probably mean 205.
    Me: no, it's definitely a 305. It's about a 33 inch tire
tire shop: I'm not sure that's right.
