    Greetings everyone!

I just got my 1999 Tacoma back and have been super excited to work on it. I loaned it to my sister until she got a new car, which only took 2 years. I am not mad at her because she just bought a brand new Jeep rubicon.

Once I got my truck back the CEL popped on not soon after I got onto the freeway. The acceleration was also weird but I thought it was normal since I haven’t driven the truck in a while.

I found out my sister didn’t do the smog check in January, so I was kinda riding dirty. If I would of gotten pulled over :( straight to the impound it would of gone. I just paid rent and wouldn’t have been able to get it out. I still had to ride dirty though.

Purchased a OBD2 sensor and tried to figure out if it was going to be a pretty penny or if I could have done it myself. Found this forum and everything changed from there. The information on these forums blew my mind and I knew I could find the answers I was looking for.

I learned how to clean the MAF sensor and reset the code. What a change it did to my truck.

I just got the smog test today but was so stressed out about not being able to find the EGR. Which didn’t exist. >.<
I passed smog and now I want to do some other maintenance to the truck.

    Oil change
    Transmission fluid?
    Brake fluid?

If any one has any pointers on what else I can do to make sure my truck stays alive with me,& would also appreciate that too.

    Nice to meet everyone.

Welcome! You must be one heck of nice guy because after 2 months it would have been fish or cut bait with my sister borrowing my ride.

I'd probably go thru pretty much everything because people who borrow vehicles very seldom do anything they don't have to do maintenance wise to them.

    Thanks everybody :)

@fxntime I had a Civic to use but it took crap on me just as soon as I got my truck back. Yeah I even got the oil change for her the couple of times I went to visit the family.

Not to be rude, but sis needs to have some lessons in how to maintain a vehicle. Or her new Jeep will be a pile in a couple of years.

Welcome, and yes, you likely should service all the fluids just to get back to a 'known baseline'. I'd pull the wheels and clean, adjust and replace brake parts as needed, then go through all the other safety items like lights, wipers etc and make sure you're solid there.
