I need someone to tell me where to stick my antennae. I don't want to just shove it anywhere, so someone needs to tell me exactly what I should do with it.

I have a 2018 double cab and I want to install my 2 meter rig but I'm not sure 1) how to get the antenna wire out of the cab, 2) where to mount the radio, 3) where to mount the remote faceplate and 4) the most discrete way to get the antenna to the end of the bed near the tailgate.

Little help, maybe? Has anyone else mounted a ham radio in one of these without it looking like you should live in a secluded cabin making mail bombs?

Also, I don't know how to wire it to the battery without blowing up my new truck and/or voiding the warranty.

With all your questions, I would just take it to a professional and let them do, while you voiced all your concerns to them.

I could do it, but it would look like I did it. I was hoping someone had some good ideas.

I 2nd the recommendation of letting a pro handle it. Lots of things can go wrong. As a professional 12v installer, all of the "I did it myself" jobs that start with these questions turn out to be fire hazards that look awful. Not saying that would happen with you, but I see it all the time

Run some flexible conduit along the underframe and fish your wires through waterproofed grommets.

Put a high clearance bumper on the back with a swingout put the antenna on the bumper. That is where we put my brothers and will be doing the same to mine.

That's an HF rig, but that's nice. I'm getting the roof rack installed and I realized after I negotiated for it that it's really just roof rails and not a rack at all. Anyway, I want a serious roof rack and I'm not sure where to get one. But I'll probably wind up mounting it to that along with some LEDs and a hi-lift. How did they get the antenna wire out of the cab?

    1. There might possibly be a rubber grommet on either side behind the front seats. Crawl underneath and look. Find one you like and use it. Cut a small hole in it for the coax cable reinsert and use a rubberized coating on it to seal it up.

    2. Mount the radio under one of the seats. You may need a separation kit for the radio that will come with extension cables for the faceplate and microphone.

    3. Their are many options for this. I really have no recommendations for this.

    4. Underneath the truck zip tie it up and stay away from anything hot.

Personally I would roof mount the antenna. A lot of people do not want to drill a hole in there brand new truck but it will be the best place.
