And this is why non drop bracket-ers have some hatred. Hell, I'm annoyed to be associated with this...

6 inch lift on these little trucks is a little obnoxious. Everyone with a rough country 6 inch lift is either an obese teenager with bitch tits or 5' 1

Is it rough country lift? I was looking at the zone 6 inch and the drop bracket looks like it' better built.

Well, let's see. Years of research! And all I was providing was a little caution before proceeding with modifications that could cause warranty issues in the future.
    1. When you lift a suspension, be it with or without a drop bracket. You change the angles and or locations of various drivetrain components. Specifically, with a drop bracket, you lower the front differential. As a result you're changing angles of propeller shaft, carrier bearing, transmission, and transfer case. The dealer to make a case of these changes and angles have worn out equipment in these components early.
    2. I never recommended my suspension to anyone. I even said it would be completely overkill for the OP's intended use. My suspension was only mentioned as an answer to a direct question.
    3. I have never heard anything good about Rough Country, but I've read many good reviews of BDS.
    4. If your dealership installed the left, they usually if not always include that in the warranty. But my understanding for this is that it needs to be written in and included in the warranty at that time.

I've spent years on Tacoma World and Other forums reading about failed warranty claims due to modifications. And prior to that I had an lx450 in there was highly modded too. And I spent a couple years and IH8MUD forum also reading about failed warranty claims due to modifications. I have also read the rule of law that regulates warranties in relationship to modifications.
I myself took those steps and made modifications that risk of voiding my warranty for various issues. I've drilled the frame for skid plates. I have welded sliders on the frame. I've cut the main positive battery cable for a dual-battery install. And I have a 3 inch suspension. All of these modifications can result in a refusal of warranty for components that may be affected by these modifications.
I did none of these modifications blindly..researched and weighed out the risk before doing it.

What are you talking about? Do you expect a stock setup to be capable of being launched 40 feet?

No just saying neither a stock truck or a truck with a lift would handle that. Depends on what happends to the truck

I personally love big lifts and tires on these Tacomas.

Just do some research and make your best educated decision.

    Good luck on your quest!!!

Just buy the Rough Country, get it installed and report back. If you like it, you got a nice lift for $1k that makes you happy. It sounds like you’re pretty convinced already. If you hate it, then oh well, you can always upgrade to the BDS later on :)

Yea I can always switch down the road. But what if the drop bar has to be welded in? If they have to be welded in i might as well go with the bds

I believe they are both no-weld.

Some bad info on this thread in the beginning. Read this thread for an idea of how a 4" RC goes in with custom mods you should copy to make it plenty tough. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/bro-coma-3rd-gen-build-30-bro-60-build-and-25-bs.461225/ I believe it's that thread that also says the RC drop bracket is 3.5 inches on both the 4" and 6" where as the BDS one uses a 6" DB. I couldn't tell you if that's true or not but that alone makes me prefer Rough Country over Big Dick's Suspension. I am a fan of the 4" Rough Country kit with Diablo's mods, looks plenty stout to me with good clearance and a-arms in mid travel for a smooth ride. Can't really say for durability because I haven't owned one...

Usually have to weld the steering stops onto the knuckle, Rough country has a bracket that bolts onto the ball joint.

I always encourage people to weld the seam on the drop bracket for rigidity.

So many 6" people in here crying about misinformation but I've installed probably 15 and seen 2 in small accidents that bend the frame due to the inherit weakness of cutting the cross member and relying on cheap lateral bars to provide strength.

Bishop, nice to hear first hand info. It was your comment in particular I was referring to about a 6" spacer on top of stock suspension. I see now you that you meant that spacer along with spindles and a drop bracket etc, my bad. If you get a chance to have a look at that thread I linked to Diablo169's build I'd like to hear your opinion on his modifications. Where was the bend on the frame you mentioned? You think it needs fish plating?

So as long as I dont crash the truck or slam into a tree stump at 60 mph I should be fine
