    Aloha TW,

I recently bought a magnetic grey 2015 (guessing it's 2016 model as they didn't have mag grey in the 2015 release, right?) Tacoma TRD Pro and in love with the truck. It was what I was looking for without having to spend the money on building it myself, as it came with a leveling kit and BFG A/T 275/70R17 (with some meat left on them).

When I drove it, I noticed a shake in the steering column at around 50-55 mph and requested an alignment. That didn't help with the shaking and they then rotated/balanced the tires. I've still noticed the shaking (now in steering wheel and the bed) and guessing it stems from the not properly rotated tires, but I'm not certain.

Looking further into it, I noticed that the suspension didn't look like the TRD Pro suspension, but instead Bilstein 6112 on the front and 5160 on the rear. With that, I have a strong "hunch" that the previous owner swapped the TRD Pro suspension out (sneaky devil) before selling it. Would this be causing the problems?

Again, I'm new to the Tacoma ownership, but the thing rides like a bucking bronco when I hit the smallest bump in the road. Not sure if the Bilstein's put on there are the problem, the control arms, the leveling kit, the uneven tires (should I just ride the shake out until I need replacements), or what? I'll upload some pics tomorrow.

Looking for and appreciate any support,

    Matt

    welcome.

TRD Pro 2nd gen came with Bilsteins but non adjustable fronts and red springs. You would have TRD stickers to help identify if they're OEM or aftermarket Bilsteins.

Hopefully you figure out your vibration issues.

Yes the 2015 Pro came with Bilstiens but it was only sold in Black, white and inferno red. Unless yours was repainted it isn't a Pro. There was no 2016 TRD Pro available.

Also if the truck in you avatar is your truck it is missing the color matched grill surround, TRD pro grill and hood scoop that would have come standard on the Pro. Most likely you have an TRD off-road or SR5.

Thanks for the comments and feedback.
@Rob Daman I've attached a couple pics of the rear; no TRD stickers.

@Pirahna When we pulled the CarFax it revealed TRD Pro. I just ran the VIN again and it came back to a 2015 Tacoma Double Cab/TRD Pro. I read that the 2015 only had the black, white, and inferno red colors and 2016 was when they introduced the magnetic grey. Regarding your comment about the hood scoop, grille/matching surround, etc. that's where I'm getting the hunch that the previous owner stripped those mentioned TRD Pro parts before selling it. I do have the TRD Pro exhaust still on.

    Thanks again

Definitely not Pro shocks in your pics or 5160s.

Many have reported Vins and Carfax listing SR5's, sport's and offroad's showing as Pro's, they are not correct.

Lots of info in this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/trd-pro-tx-baja-official-thread.360056/

It sounds like you have a TRD offroad 2015.

Did you buy it thinking it was a pro? If so, you got scammed.

    Those bilstein 4600 shocks.

2016 is a completely different bodystyle.

You have a TRD Off Road. Those are the Off Road shocks.

OP re-read your original post. You say you got 6112’s on the front. 6112’s are basically the 2nd gen TRD Pro front coilover. The Pro front shock is non adjustable. The 6112 is adjustable. Can you tell what “ring” your 6112’s are setup on? If you are setup on the 4th or 5th ring that may be giving you your harsh ride. Also any way to determine your coil? Is it a 600, 650, 700 lb coil?

PS the Pro 2nd gen rear shock looks like:

@Pirahna That is bizarre, but I appreciate the info and that forum link. I guess the previous owner installed the TRD Pro exhaust and skid plate.

@rnish I'm clueless, but after some more digging, they are definitely the stock suspension. Think I will look around and eventually replace the stock suspension.

Still learning over here and do appreciate the info from everyone. Besides the Pro/OF mix-up in the VIN, I absolutely love the truck. Just need to figure out the shimmy and I'll be a little more relieved.

Just FYI, it is just called a TRD exhaust, and TRD skid. For a 16'+ you can buy a TRD Pro skid.
