I haven’t had a solid Area because I don’t know what’s going to be occupied or not! I was thinking of hitting Barney Riley and camping around there but am open to anywhere. I just know for sure that I’m going to be camping somewhere along the 4/88 on Saturday.

from the reading I've been doing I'm getting the impression camps will be busy this weekend.
the last two memorial days we've gone to mendocino and as long as we got there by mid day friday, we pretty much had our pick of camp sites. Hoping for similar timing results.
its forecasted to rain Saturday in June lake area where it looks like we will be around,
so not sure how that will affect the camping crowds.

    Where are you headed?

I haven't decided if I wanted to head out mid day friday or early early saturday to wherever I'm going.

Pushing the coast run back to an end of summer deal though i think, we have a big trip out to the middle of the Tahoe national forest for 5days/4nights early July.
Mapped out the beach spot though and it's a 5.5hr drive from where we are @dskakie , so I'm thinking mid/ late august at the latest. Definitely happening though so I'll keep you informed.
As far as local-ish runs I'm down always Not even gonna bother taking the tepui off this summer so if anyone needs a trail buddy les gooo

Last week on the Plumas with the Repo pup, 5 miles or so from home, close to Bucks Lake. Saves on gas. Used some real vintage stoves, no modern crap this time like profane (propane). I hesitate inquiring about group runs.

This thread was very helpful in my exploration this weekend.

    1. Bypassing the Bowman Road closure at the bridge definitely doable for a stock OR loaded down in the back, thanks for that tip. Smacked the undercarriage once, but that was a bad line more than anything else.
    2. The road down to Foote Crossing (which someone recommended way back at the top of the thread) was... a memorable experience. I didn't look out my window until I was committed and the thousand foot drop just past my tires was sobering. When I got down to the crossing and unclenched the old man at the bridge told me the road up the other side has gotten pretty bad - dirt with some very deep ruts from runoff the last few winters. The sky was looking like it might rain so I wussed out and went back up the way I'd come down.

Has anyone been up the North side past the crossing in the last year or two? Thinking I may have to make the trip again at some point now that I know what I'm in for.

    Edit: Sorry, forgot :worthless:

Thanks for the pictures! I have a stock OR so that is good to hear I can make it through no problem (even loaded down).

I am would like to drive the Henness Pass road from Bowman Lake up to Truckee. It looks like you can meet up with the Henness Pass road via the Bowman Lake road off Highway 20. Does anyone know if you can make it all the way through right now? I am guess you can by the post quoted above?

I've been eyeballing this thread and some pretty cool looking sites. I would like to give my 2 cents. Couple of weeks ago I was on a trip to a site along the Merced River but failed to actually find it. However better yet I found a spot further down the rd that's right along the river. https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/sierra/recarea/?recid=64881

While there I was the only one at the three different spots, now that its summer it might be a bit busier.

The first two are on Bowman Lake Road, the first headed east to west by the lake and the second navigating the bridge outage just west of the lake.

The last pic is Allegheny Trail/Foote Crossing Road. Started near Nevada City.

I did part of Henness Pass on this trip, from near Webber Lake to Bowman Lake. It was one of my favorite parts of the trip, though I had to get out and saw some limbs out of the road - thanks, Silky Bigboy. It is now on my list to do the entire Henness Pass Road this summer if I can. I would definitely take a saw if you go just in case.

Is there a list somewhere of all the trails to hit up? Bear in mind it's my first time with a truck and first time doing trail runs.

Wanted to pop my cherry with a 2018 DCLB OR

Don't pop your cherry at Hollister lol I took my 17 DCLB OR there and high centered on a trail I had no business on. Easy to get lost there.

Easiest suggestion is downloading the alltrails app and filtering out for off road driving. A lot of easy trails on there.

Also another website is called www.trailsoffroad.com/
It's ok but it's lacking a lot of trails. All trails has way more, but trails offroad goes more indepth if you can find a trail near you.

@sd1uh8as if you wanted to just test out your truck on some simple stuff you can always do some of the park features at Hollister. At least its somewhat close to you in SJ. Unfortunately, a lot of the decent trails are going to be on forest land
