Confused Canuck

I am close to getting a lift on my truck but am somewhat perplexed by some shops here in Winnipeg. I have now gone to 3 different custom shops that are well known to install all manor of suspension lifts for 4x4's. In each shop i inquire what they recommend for a 2-3" lift for my tacoma. They all point to a leveling kit (approx $600). I then proceed to mention how i have researched on the internet that most people (in the states) are using Bilstein 5100 series adjustable shocks and i get the same blank stare response. Is this just an American phenomenon or has anyone else noticed this sort of thing north of the boarder?

 

It's not just Canada. I don't think Bilsteins have much of a following here in the northeast of the U.S. either. I have never seen a Tacoma or any other truck on adjustable Bilsteins, and I've only seen a couple lifted Tacomas out of the many hundreds I've viewed along the highways. I'm going to a meet someday just to see some Bilstein lifted trucks.

 

order the billies from down south motor sports, thats what I did and they gave me a good deal. I had them shipped up to brandon. Then get one of those shops to install them.

 

Where's it parked so I can come "steal" a look at it?

 

ya when i went to grandwest they pointed me to the spacer lift. im so glad i got rid of that lift!

 

Bahh, i just ordered the fronts but they were already out of the rears

Now i have to wait to order the rears and pay the shipping again.

i wouldnt even worry about the rears, just get an extra leaf added

 

Rear 5100s don't lift. They are just shocks, not struts (like the front). They are not adjustable. They are just the proper size shock to accommodate up to a 3" lift (at least on 1st gens, assuming 2nd gen rear Billies accomodate the same height). To lift the rear, you would need an AAL or new leaf pack.
