Just tell the wife you'll make her some lawn furniture or something, and get yourself a welder. $400-500 for a decent one. Then tell her you need to "practice" on skid plates and bumpers before you make the furniture.

    Worked for me, lol...

    Cost?

I don't think anyone is making these things out of stainless, except maybe the bro-dozer mall crawler ones. Those might just be chromed, anyway.

I bought some 6mm stainless hardware for some tie down hooks for my bed - cost me $50. I can't imagine what a chunk of 2' x 4' 3/16" stainless plate would cost. yikes...

Hey, hey, hey. My front skid is 7 gauge stainless and I don't go to malls. A TW member makes them, or designed it and has them made.

    :D

That's like, what, 3/16". Is that thick enough to beat on? What did that cost you?

So, when you park one wheel up on the curb, is that full flex?? ;)

Yes, about 3/16. I haven't beat on it yet. Hoping to get some battle scars this season. $345 including hardware and shipping.

For all you guys that built the IFS, mid and transfer case skids; how much material did you buy? My steel supplier isn't very close to me so when I make a trip I have to grab everything I need at least for the next month. Lol.

Should've known that was coming. I've seen them bolted from the bottom and from the side. Just wondering if drilling is required or are there factory holes.

I was looking for a way to take advantage of those bolts when I was down there.

    @fatfurious2 @2BeersPlease

I only have a front dif / ifs skid. I used the factory mounts up front and the steering rack bolts for the rear.

I think for trans and xfer case skids people will add a crossmember for the rear mount and tie onto the ifs skid for the front mounts

I might do what @Reh5108 did.

This is what I was referring to.

Start with cardboard. Or you could get a bunch of that craft foam board stuff - it's a little more rigid than cardboard and is closer to the actual steel thickness, too.

Something like this - even 3/16" thick...

I'll probably pick something up equivalent to that at walmart and start working on some skids. It would be nice to have a template so I can build more in the future if the opportunity arises.
