Did my own frame restoration this fall. Very good instructions on this thread. Only thing I would recommend is to allow at least a weekend. I put in 16 hours over the weekend and had to finish it Monday and Tuesday nights.

It is a lot of work. Definitely recommend summer and doing it outside and taking the bed off, or you'll suffer as I suffered. You should upload some pics :D

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
I have used POR 15 and I prefer Chassis Saver

Basically the same shit. But I use the aluminum color chassis saver as a base coat and top coat with jet black.

Props to you for doing it assembled. I like to strip that bitch and do it bit by bit. Good work!FB_IMG_1493772918740.jpg

Sold the truck to my brother and he took it in for all the recalls (leaf springs, frame check etc) and they smacked a hole right into the frame. This was an area that I couldn't get to and I just used Eastwood rust converter - which apparently wasn't enough. I think the rust ate through from the inside :(

here is the inspection video where you can see how bad everything is. Including the hole.
They are going to either get a new frame or buy the truck for 150% NADA from what I'm told by my brother. (I did this frame restore Nov 2014)

Toyota got back to us, frame replacement and leaf spring replacement are a go. Nice to see them supporting a 13-year-old vehicle

Came with MGM topper. Added FJammer stereo. LED Bed lights on AOB Flux Capacitor Switch. Added AOB Spy Mode switch for TBD lighting, stay tuned.
Just bought an 05 with 160k, where did your bro take it in?
I'm up in Ogden and my frame looks ok, but I haven't crawled under there and I have no history on the vehicle.

Great thread. Thanks all with the input on the frame work. Getting ideas for how to handle my ‘13 (5 yr old) frame that has more rust than I expected.

    About halfway done...
I want to start by thanking the OP. :bowdown:I would not have thought this was something I could do myself. That being said it was a lot of work. Because I had already purchased my next truck I could take my time, about 2 weeks. Front coil overs and a CV boot also needed repairing. Disassembled rear bumper fully to get everything clean.
I took on this frame restoration project to clean up the truck to sell. The rusty frame was really the only thing that looked bad. Guess I have more time than money.
Funny story, I had my Dad visit and give me a hand. At the end with the whole frame glistening brand new, he said "maybe I should buy your truck"
So now this lucky truck gets to stay in the family:)
Can't find before photos. I estimate the rust was about half as bad as OP truck.

    Work Notes:
Air needler worked great. Need a good air compressor. I noticed lack of performance after air tank emptied.
Ospho metal treatment went on ok. Should refresh the container used for dipping foam brush frequently. Some drips got past my cardboard around the jack stands and burned garage floor:(
Por-15 went on ok. Whatever Amazon foam brushes I got turned floppy real fast. I did use a chemical grade respirator but surprisingly the Por-15 Didn't smell too bad. Two coats was applied as the Por-15 is pretty thin.
Working upside down was a bit challenging. No acid or Por-15 on the face:muscleflexing:
Eastwood Internal Frame Coating was very rewarding. The fastest part of the project! The spray nozzle worked perfectly.

    Awesome work!
I plan on doing my truck next week.

What did you use for a top coat? I bought semi-gloss frame paint from the local AutoZone.

Correct I did use a top coat on the wheel wells and trailer hitch. Basically only the areas I thought direct sunlight would contact.
    I used Rust-Oleum semi-gloss spray can.

Awesome work. What all did you remove besides tires, rear bumper, and front skid plate to access all of the frame?

Correct. Dropped spare tire and removed the four rubber wheel well covers in the front. I also had the coilovers out for service and removed the sway bar.
