So I recently bought led turn signals for my 05 with dtrl and it came with two led load resistors but im not really sure where to wire them in or where to secure them. Any help?

I just replaced the plug in flasher for the turn signals under the dash, didn't use the resistors...

1- Do NOT put the resistors anywhere inside. They get hot enough to melt plastic.
2- Connect the resistors to the BACK turn signals (since the front bulbs will always be lit by the DTRL).
3- Mount the resistors to a metal surface (see post #6) so they can dissipate the heat.

If you don't use the correct watt resistor, they will get hot.

Don't preach what you don't know.

There is a reason the resistors have a big ass heatsink on them.
If the resistor wattage is too small they will burn up. If the wattage is correct, they will get hot.
Feel free to activate the turnsignals for 5 minutes and then touch the resistor. Have some burn salve ready.
The resistors are usually 6 ohm 50 watt. A resistor like the one shown in post #6 will hit over 300 deg F after 5 minutes of turn signal use. See video below.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6SAhMHbrEA

That's why I recommended mounting to a metal surface to spread out the heat.

a properly sized resistor wont heat up to 300 degrees

Hey @dsage17 what size resistors did you get with your led lights? Don’t trust the vendor to give you the right ones. They may get hot so find out before just mounting them anywhere. Burning down your truck for cool led lights will suck.

I’d like to beat this dead horse one more time just to be clear. My 08 has DRLs that I will be replacing with LEDs. As jbrnigan and fritzthecat have mentioned, adding the resistors to the rear turn signals will correct hyper flash after adding the LED front signal/DRL. So.. if I add the correct resistor to each of the rear signals, the resistors will NOT be ‘on’ constantly as they would be if I were to place the resistors in the front with the DRLs? I do not have LED rears.

Tacomas with DRL require 12pin flashers. 8 pin flashers (such as this one) work great for non DRL equipped. At this time no one makes a 12pin LED flasher for these vehicles thus requiring resistors. It’s too bad....

I'm happy with my grey plastic jumper cap, LEDs, Smart Tap flasher, no resistors, no DRLs.

Are you saying, add resistors to rear regular bulb for hyperflash from a front DRL/LED turn bulb?

Has anyone found a flasher that will work with a 2nd gen? If so can you provide a link to purchase one. Also what brand of LED’s did you use for the front DRL/Turn signals and back turn signal?

Do front AND back turn signal bulbs need load resistors? I installed them on my tail lights and they work fine until I turn my headlights on (which are also LED). Suggestions?
