Ok so your hand and arm force by the weight of it resting on the shifter is exacerbated to the syncros. The syncros are just made of soft brass and aren't very strong so yes that can wear them out prematurely. But the dude in the thread has a point the dealer needs to prove that you rest your hand on the shifter or are banging gears and missing shifts to cause that issue. As a tech I would of never written a note like that or blamed the customer in that way, that is very unprofessional and I agree with @Bubbles on his comment, or find a new dealership that is much more professional. Even on vehicles when I knew the customer was 100% to blame I used it as a teaching aid and explained it to them never once did I ever say this will not be covered under warranty again. I would always leave that up to the powers above and just write down my findings sometimes in the customers favor because as a dealership you are the face in which customers interact with the manufacturers and you need to keep them happy. So sometimes the dealership just bites the bullet for the customer even though they will never get reimbursed by the manufacturer. Just my $0.02 having worked as a tech in dealerships.

FWD cars don't really have this issue if the shifter is cable driven but the old VWs and Honda/Acuras that are linkage driven this can happen to as well. That information in the quick start manuals is just a CYA for the manufacturers. But it is good practice to not do this, I am bad about it as well.

    What kind?

I’ll try to bring my yak up with Friday’s load since I’ll be up there for the weekend...if you don’t mind some company.

I just bought a Generac 7019 to clean the new place with. Been wanting a new one and it was as good of an excuse as any to buy one. Plus that driveway...
