Best paint to prevent rust.

This weekend I plan on bolting on my sliders for my 15. Few holes I have to drill so I am going to prime them and paint them before installing. Anybody have experience with certain paints to prevent rust or can vs roll on?

Looks great but going to the web site the only way you can buy it is if you set up an account with them. A quick web search does not appear to reveal any outside sources. Did you purchase a can somewhere or do you have an account with them?

 

after the paint cures completely, spray the area where the metal will bolt together with this. It dries to a waxy consistency. and doesn't wash out.

also works well to penetrate into seams and cracks after assembly

On sliders it's more about the thickness and durability of the paint than the rust inhibition. They see a lot of abuse and you will be touching them up regularly, or experiencing rust.

I finally gave up and took mine to the powder coater. Worth. every. penny.

 

So, can the average Joe set one up? Do you sell their products? Do you just buy their products for your own use? Educate me please....

I'm sure you can set up an account. I don't sell it. I use there products from bolts to hydraulic lines and fittings all the way to electrical connectors everyday at my shop

Why not take 4 minutes out of your day and setup an account? Missing why this is so hard

 

It isn't hard. In looking at the web site, the web site did not offer much information regarding how their process works. Typically you can either buy products on web sites or they only sell to dealers that you can buy off from. It has become evident to me that there is no option for buying their products through a dealer network or through their web site without setting up an account. I am still not convinced that the company will deal with individuals who are not affiliated with a business. They may only want to deal with shops who are going to use their product in house and not sell it directly to consumers. I was just trying to understand their business model and what my options were. I am interested in using their product so I was trying to gather information from someone who had been there and done that.

 

Sounds like a Multi Level Marketing setup.

Just to follow up. I called the company. They will set up individual accounts. They have some products that they cannot ship to individuals due to some type of regulations. Their online registration required a company name which led me to believe that only businesses might be able to purchase from them. I dealt with a woman working from her home who ironically lives about 45 minutes away. Small world. The cost of one 20 oz. can of the Black Rust Master Primer is $17 and change shipped. They will charge tax for each state. The rep I spoke to was nice and I suspect they work on commission as my emailed invoice will have her direct line for future purchases. I will probably test the product to see how it works before touching up my frame.

1. Prep: Media blast to SSPC SP10 - near white blast
2. Corrosion Barrier: Steel only... Sherwin Williams Zinc Clad XI
3. Primer/ Base: Sherwin Williams Macro Epoxy 646
4. Top Coat: Sherwin William Sherloxane 800

This system will allow for salt water immersion. If the tubing is open, you'll need to dip to avoid corrosion INSIDE. But then again, by the time its compromised you're truck will probably be long gone....

... at least that how I did my sliders prior to welding them on...
