I’m not even going to read all the comments, I just wanted to say you made a good choice. These are great, reliable trucks. Some people just don’t know how to be happy and need to constantly complain online. I have 20k on mine and not a single hiccup since the day I bought it.

My favorite is when someone comes in here with an issue going on with their truck... By the 5th page of the thread you finally hear it went through 4 feet of water. You've got to keep in mind, some people use these trucks differently than others.

Don't sweat it until something happens. I worried too, but it didn't stop me from buying my 3rd gen after many years of reliable service from other Toyota trucks and cars.

I've just got 11k miles on mine so far, but zero issues. I do keep a spare CPS under the back seat, and after over a year and 11k miles, I'm not terribly happy with the transmission on the highway (which I do very little of) and will eventually pick up the OV Tune for it, but other than that, so far, so good. In fact my Gen1 gave me more headaches early on than this one has so far. Steering wheel chatter on that one was making me nuts, and I spent a lot of time working to fix that and cursing Toyota at the time. But 240k miles later, that truck is still solid and has been the best vehicle I've ever owned.

Zero squeaks or rattles. Drives like a dream (less some annoying shifting on freeway). Just a sound and capable vehicle. My hope is the engine and transmission wind up having the legendary Toyota longevity in the long run, but only time and miles will tell on that.

    You'll be fine man.

I had the same feeling after joining TW after purchasing mine 6 months ago, but after awhile most of the negative posts here about the 3rd Gen seem to just be drama and BS. TW has a very small sample of a larger population of 3rd Gen Tacoma Owners.

Limit your TW consumption and enjoy your truck!

The amount of people on here is a small fraction of the amount of actual Tacoma owners.

If you have an issue, post it here and people will help you out. If not, why worry? Just enjoy your truck. Worrying about what may happen because some people have issues is going to make you miserable.

OP, I'm glad you started this thread. Like you I also joined The World in hopes of learning more about my truck and while I have read some wonderful info I also started to notice a lot of bitching. For awhile I thought I had the only perfect 2016 Off Road ever made. In fact I had posted it for sale because I thought it was so rare for the sum of $75000. I have not had any of the issues you read about on here. I usually avoid first year models of anything I buy but being it's a Tacoma I never hesitated. Even my Tundra wasn't perfect ,close but not perfect. I honestly don't think I have ever had a vehicle of any kind that I have enjoyed more that my Tacoma. There is hardly a day goes bye that I don't get a nice comment about it. It's hard for me to describe but there is just something special about these little trucks. I hope that you have as good of luck as I have and that you enjoy it as much.

190K miles on my truck since 2009 and no freaking issues with my tacoma... I about to create my own just to ensure that I am not dreaming. just take care of it and it will take care of you.

1 occasional mishap will always erase 99 attaboys. Bad news and drama travel at light speed and will always overshadow the satisfied owners accounts. We already know about the legendary resale value, but Tacomas have the best resale value of all used vehicles, not just trucks.

I love my Taco and have zero regrets. I've always wanted a Tacoma, and I'm glad I waited for a Turd Gen.

Finally getting her the way I envisioned:

25k on mine and love me some Taco!! Drive and enjoy your truck. Just bear in mind, Toyota would not keep a "bad" engine, tranny, or poor combo in a vehicle for three years i it sucked. To even further cement that, they are selling the shit out of this little truck.

Some of it may be the luck of the draw! I had the misfortune of the differential impound, so bad luck, on the other hand, my auto tranny shifts great! The only way I know that it is shifting, is to watch the tach. As I have said on other threads, after getting out of the Ram loner and back into the Taco, was like going from a 70s Cadillac to a Porsche! I do like my Taco and would highly recommend them!

Maybe that's the problem, the 3rd gens are so luxurious! Now the 48 Dodge Power Wagon I learned to drive on back in the late 60s, before I had a drivers license, now that was a Truck! 4X4, power steering by Armstrong, no radio, and the great 5-40 air conditioning. I need to get one of those.

If you're not having any issues than I wouldn't be concerned at all. I'm at 40k+ on my 2016 right now and the only real issue that I've had was due to my direct stupidity. (I blew the fuse to the EGS and lit up the dash like a Christmas tree.)

If I could change some things about the powertrain I'd be a lot happier, but this truck has been 100% reliable and I have no doubts that it will continue to be.

Husky floor mats, Toyota bed mat, Bed Header rail,
I have a 2016 TRD OFF-ROAD with that abortion of an automatic transmission that lunges in reverse. I get that clunk when I stop the first few times each day. My springs squeak. The radio randomly resets during my favorite song. The instrument cluster scratches easily.....BUT....... I LOVE MY TACOMA...... We all love em. If you still have doubts, attend one of the off-road trips posted on this forum. It is a "sure fire" cure for buyers remorse.

Also, this is a SMALL group of tacoma owners compared to how many are on the road.
I see at least one at every intersection--yet there are about a total of 20 people that are on here constantly bashing the tacoma. It made me hate mine, I ignored them and I am happy with my truck again.

95% of reported issues are self inflicted due to mods and/or misuse. Tacomas are not flawless, but definitely one of the most reliable trucks on the road if maintained properly.

You made a good choice don’t worry about it. I just rolled over 52k on mine. My truck had a few first model year issues that were taken care of by Toyota without issue. Truck is great now I daily drive it, tow with it regularly and beat the hell out of it on the weekends in the woods. It takes all that and just keeps on ticking.

Welcome to tw. Since I have been here I noticed alot if 2nd geners passing as 3rd and complaining about the 3rd. I personally love the 3rd. I don't own one though. Think they are jealous of you having a better truck than theres.
