I have a 2010 Tacoma double cab, V6, SR5. It's an amazing truck. There are a couple of things that I want to ask about. The first is that on the drivers side the skid plate seems to be bent so that it hangs lower than the other side. It also seems to be unattached in comparison to the passenger side. The service dept. at the dealer says that it is the way the 2010's are supposed to be. Has anyone else come accross this and is it the way the 2010's are built?

The other thing is that I purchased the truck with a tow package but I can't just plug a trailer in and go. The electric conections seem to need some extra stuff to make it so I can plug in a trailer. Is this typical for this truck? All of the other trucks that I've owned that had tow packages have had complete electrical hook ups.

    Thanks for your help.

A photo would greatly help with the skid plate.

And the connections for the trailer depend on what kind of plug your trailer has...

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
does the truck have the 7pin w/ the factory tow package or like a 4pin from a dealer added package?

Right there's what you want to know. Hopefully, you have the 7-pin which means it's the factory towing package. And then you just need to spend the $7 (or less) for the adapter so you can plug in the 4-pin connectors.

As far as the front skid, the back mounting bolts are in different locations. Totally normal. The passenger side is near the edge of the plate, while the driver's side bolt is almost dead center in the middle at the back edge. No idea why it's this way, and I've never looked at it when it was off because it just didn't occur to me. To me, it's just the way it is...

Thanks for the input. As far as the tow package goes the window sticker says that the truck has a tow package. There is neither a 4 or 7 pin anything. What is there is a silver colored metal "thing" that I guess one of the connecters should fit into. I sure can't simply plug in either if the trailers and go.

can you get a pic of it? factory tow harnesses are black, have a flip up cap, and positioned left of the receiver. in the factory packages, all you would need is a 7pin to 4pin or whatever adaptor like this....
