I was wondering if you'd peek in here...cause you drop bracketed a Pro which is the ultimate sin in many eyes! I personally think it's awesome. Your truck, your money, your damn to give.

Haha! I had a few guys give me shit but I don’t pay any mind. I didn’t spend their money so I’m not too sure why they’re concerned. I went the icon 3” route on my last 4runner TRD pro and honestly the BDS 6 inch doesn’t perform any less for what I use it for (99% pavement, 1% light off road). But I do miss the damn 4runner sometimes for the closed storage space.

Pro comp 6”. Threw away the barrel spacers. Full length bilstein 5100’s paired with OME 888 up front, extended bilstein 5100’s in the rear with OME Dakar leaf pack and 2” block (should’ve ponied the money up for Alcans and ditched the block but I’m using the Dakar pack from when I was originally at a 3” lift)

Decided on pro comp due to fabtech on the 3rd gens significantly decreasing the turning radius. To go fishing where I go on volcanic rock and cliff side, turning radius was still pretty important lol

Old pic but you get the idear

So you switched from a suspension lift to the drop bracket? I have a full ome kit with 888’s and the Dakar leaf pack. So you just used your existing front suspension instead of the spacers, and added a 2” black to the leaf pack?

Bought the drop bracket lift, couldn’t use the front shock setup from the 3” obviously. But luckily bilstein makes full length struts that can be utilized with a 6” lift. I just paired them with the OME 888’s.
As for the rear, you are correct. The extended rear shocks that were supplied by headstrong Offroad were more than long enough surprisingly.

Edit: pro comp provides a 3” block and Aal in the kit, the Dakar leaf pack offered a lot of height (with the overload in) so I traded my 3” block for a 2”. Still have 1” rear rake, but that’s perfect for loading with camping and fishing gear

The shocks he used are the Bilstein f4-be5-e122-to which come std on the rcd drop bracket lift kit but can be bought separate and used on any of the drop bracket lift kits.

If your going to go 35's, then the correct way would be SAS/Re-gear and OVTune (optional)

Does the pro comp come with everything? What else would I need?

I mean, it’ll come with everything to do a 6” lift.

Is it the correct way? Idk. I don’t like barrel spacers and blocks haha

I'm not scared of giving things the old college try but if you are cutting into your frame I would leave it to an experienced shop that has done it a bunch of times.

Man, all this money, work and frame cutting makes one think that for not a lot more cash you could do way better. Honestly, if I wanted to build a great off road Tacoma that is capable of hard core wheeling, I would tear the IFS front suspension out and go with full size solid axles. Maybe a D60 front from a 99 Ford Super Duty and a GM 14 Bolt. 4.88 Gears and Eaton E-Lockers. I would build my own front control arms from .250 DOM tubing and use the 1 1/4 shank Currie Johnny Joints with 14" King or Fox coil overs. I would have a custom rear leaf pack built as well. Tom Wood driveshafts. Builders parts from Synergy or Artec. Probably go with 37's or 40's for tires. Straight beast mode. This is essentially what I did with my current Jeep, but I can imagine how awesome that set up would be on a Tacoma. Be one of the few Gen 3's of its kind. Get your welder out!!

Not that I’ve experienced. Volcanic trails that I pursue are nothing like Moab. Challenging, but nothing close to it.

I spent 2400 for my lift, and 1800 for my 4.88’s (parts and labor; no lockers tho :( )
Still a shit ton cheaper than SAS and having it doing what I need it to do.

Although, seems like you’ve been planning a project for us TW members to look forward to! :D

Ha, funny you mentioned that...;-) Like I said, I already have a VERY built rock crawling Jeep, but when the warranty expires on my 2017 Tacoma, all bets are off. I AM going all out on the TACO. That said, I kind of see the Gen 3 Tacoma platform as a series of possibilities:

Stage 1: Mostly for the dudes that either don't go offroad or do mild stuff-Stock or a mild leveling kit, stock tires or 32's, keep it simple (Done correctly of course).

Stage 2: What a lot of Tacoma off roaders do- 3" lift with new coilovers, leafs, UCA's, trimming and 33's, etc. (Also done correctly). Gets the job done for 90% of trails out there. Mostly moderate wheeling without beating your rig too much. Why tear up a nice new truck?!!

Stage 3: Prerunners and fast movers-IFS long travel set up, fenders, etc. Mucho dinero. Made to go fast over rough terrain and can still do moderate to hard trails.

Stage 4: For hard core wheeling of all varieties- What I described in my previous post. Body damage will most likely occur. Wheel, break, fix, wheel again. Repeat cycle. Only Toyotas I have ever wheeled with that can roll with my Jeep group are on old school Toyota trucks and highly modded. I love those older trucks. Never have seen a newer one yet.

FWIW, some of the best suspension kits I have looked at seem to run between 3-5k and counting. With that budget I could get my junkyard axles, build them and still have money left over for fab parts. That doesn't include what you could get selling off your stock parts, especially if you have an off road with the 8.75 and a locker.

Could i go with the basic kit for 1600 and upgrade the parts down the line. How' yours holding up and no uneven tire wear or anything. How much did you pay for the install. I had a place give me a price for 750 to 800
