What a mistake

Ya and that diesel option is not cheap, neither is diesel fuel. I considered it, but between initial cost, fuel, and repairs you need to drive a ton.

 

Interesting how people complaint about this truck to be sluggish, uncomfortable, drum brakes etc... and i haven't heard about a singe transmission failure. I have had 4runners, gx470, 1st & 2nd gen Tacomas and now with my new 2018 Tacoma Sport and i TOTALLY LOVE IT!!! What is very sad is that a lot of people are utilizing this forum to complaint and diminish this truck for its true capabilities and is affecting others by negative comments. Nowadays every manufacturer are building cars/trucks with fuel economy/safety in mind. I will suggest if anyone wants a fast vehicle, don't bother looking at any trucks in general and get a fast sport car. I bet if this 3gen was a v8 people will still complaint about being a gas monster and the big mistake of making the purchase blah, blah. My 2 cents.

 

I hope you have enough sense to test drive your next vehicle , it might save you some headaches. So off to another World for you my friend!

 

The other part is that they want/like that neck jerk off the line. I need the 18% more hp for the long haul rather than the little neck jerk when starting off.

 

It is alot more than off the line as most of the time you are driving will be between 1500-3000 for maximum MPGs. The guys complaining need to just learn to adjust their driving style to fit the truck. If you primarily travel out on the Interstate at high speeds this truck will scream.

 

LOL it makes more power than your other v6 tacomas ever thought about. I have driven those. They are just as much pigs as anything else. They were just reliable.

 

My brother has a 2013 trd sport 4x4 6mt. I drove it the other day. Makes me love my 2016 even more. It's not even close. The 2013 felt like a sick mule, sluggish and uncomfortable. We both agree the 2016 is a lot better. Turd gen? No.

 

Doesn't have to be at high speeds. Just so the rpm is in the sweet area. You can do that at 35. This thing moves out if you want once it starts turning. Its just not off the line. No big deal for me. Probably will save wear in the long run actually.

 

The real question is, why would someone buy a new Toyota truck an average of every 3.5 years?

 

There's a lot of truth to this, it's unfortunately a love-hate relationship. Overall, I love my truck. I love the way it looks and I live with it even though there are some shortcomings. We've all had a relationship where we love someone but there are things that we don't like, same kind of situation with the Tacoma, IMO. If they don't address issues by the time I come up to get another one, I'll probably go the Ford route, probably full size.

 

Let the haters go get the all new Ford Ranger money-pit when it comes out, i can hear the complaints already about transmission, motor, electrical, gas etc... I had 3 F-150, 2 Sierras for work and were a true nightmare right off the lot. The only thing they do right is the seats, of course, they want you to be very comfortable waiting for the tow truck to come. Lol

 

I had 1 Chevy S10 4x4, 1 Ford Bronco II 4x4, and both died with bad head gaskets with less than 125K miles. But then I saw the light when I met my wife. She was driving a 1985 4x4 Toyota PU, and I knew I had to have both of them. I chose wisely!

 

Do people buy these trucks without first driving them? I am not going to read all these posts before, but to me it sounds like he would not be happy with any automatic he bought as he prefers a manual. I am wondering why he would buy an automatic now.

As for towing, I had a 14, 16 and 18 Tacoma, all automatics. I towed once with the 14 and drove straight to the dealer ship and traded it for a 14 Tundra. I tow a 4,300 lb dry travel trailer, and of the Tacomas, the 14 was the worst. The 16 and 18 are not great at towing, but that is expected when towing this big of a trailer. But they are definitely better than the 14 was.

 

What’s odd for me is I have a 2018 automatic double cab 2.7 and I don’t think it’s lacking! It’s a truck, I don’t expect it to be fast and it does everything I need it to do. Sure I would never want to tow a camper but I’m sure an open trailer would be fine. I’ve owned several fast vehicles from sports cars to Ducati superbikes and love my 2.7!

 

you sound like your about to cry lol. we get it. its a Tacoma forum your supposed to shit on everything that's not a Toyota. I know dozens of people with high mileage American brand trucks with zero issues.

 

I agree with you, it seems that people go buy trucks blindfolded and then they come straight to the forums to complaint. Unbelievable..

 

Right? I bought a tacoma because it's supposed to last. I'm gonna be driving mine till i can't fix it anymore.

 

My father does perfectly fine with his Ford work trucks and his idea of maintenance is changing the engine oil. He doesn't touch anything else unless it is obviously broken, which really isn't often.

 

Not crying but rather being realistic here. You know about a dozen people not having problems thats GREAT!! Come to my company and you will hear THOUSANDS of problems. But hey, Mopar parts are affordable to a certain point!

 

Some people just enjoy driving a new vehicle. With the Tacomas resale value, why not get a new truck more often?
